Hey it's the weekend of the year in Minneapolis! It's Mayday weekend. Another smiley breakfast to start the day. I think it's obvious who uses the living room the most in this family. Since we are replacing our sink with a pedestal sink I found us a cabinet to go over our toilet. Our bathroom is really looking good. It's not perfect, but it's a definite improvement from how it looked a month ago. Theo always tries to get a swing in before we go anywhere. Always fun to see a bike traffic jam on Blaisdell. Theo graduated to a bigger bike this year. He's still a little hesitant on his bike and unsure what to do with the gears. I'm pretty sure I had a simple single speed, back peddle braking bike at his age. In fact I was in second grade when I learned to bike.    Meadow with her new helmet. I've wanted to get one of these helmets (well not in pink), but now Brooke and Meadow have them. I guess I waited too long.

  It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start. 

On Thursday evening the kids school had an international night. Since this was the only year both kids would be at the same school we did a booth.  Theo is making this face because his teacher was so proud of him.  We decided to celebrate the kids Polish heritage. I'm a a quarter Polish, but they're only an 1/8th. Ha. I made (not enough) pirogies. They were a big hit. Theo is still loving his fort bed.  And snuggling on Meadow's bean bag.  I always forget how easy crepes can be. Well, that's because the kids always request the caramel apple topping, sliced strawberries, etc. My mom always just served it with (fake) syrup. This is how you start a proper Mayday. Theo LOVED the battle train so much last year we couldn't wait to show him again.  The bikes are always fun to see.  It means the parade is gonna come soon. Well, within a half hour.

Folks, COVID is over, and the Mayday Parade is back! But first we had our good friends Davin, Dora and the kids over for dinner. After seeing them a week earlier, at Doralyce's birthday party, we invited them over.    We wanted to catch up and also thank them for the invite to the birthday party.  I made shrimp and grits for our friends. 

I was making cardamon and sour cream waffles when I hear my camera go off.

Since we got home from the cottage Meadow and Theo developed a deep chest cough. We took them to the doctor, but it turned out to just be a cold. The next day both Scott and I started feeling down.  I felt pretty rundown the morning of the MayDay parade and thought I'd stay home. I ended up tagging along after seeing how much stuff Brooke would have to carry.

I think Meadow was still tired from our Appalachian road trip, but we had a Mayday parade to check out. 

We had one sweet potato left so why not make breakfast tacos again. This time I roasted the sweet potatoes the night before and reheated it in the morning to make it faster. Brooke is a breakfast goddess.

My parents came up for the annual visit. My uncle had come up for Mayday a few years ago and my dad has been wanting to come up for it since.  That being it said it was Mayday weekend and low and behold they showed up! I made some cinnamon rolls for the occasion. Brooke forced me to make some glaze, but I had to use sugar that I ground in the food processor. It turned out a bit gritty. Actually it was my mom who thought it was crazy that we were going to serve them without any glaze. Today was supposed to have nice weather. We thought up ideas on what to do for the day and settled on the Minnesota Zoo. We didn't realize that quite a bit of the zoo was indoors. I guess that makes sense in Minnesota. My dad insisted on renting a stroller for Meadow. She loved climbing in and out of it all day.  "Fish, fish."  Meadow enjoyed the fish. Meadow was having lots of fun seeing all the animals. Kids under two are free so it worked...
