Another Grand Marais and North Shore Workcation: Grand Portage Edition

Another weekend, another road trip. This time to the North Shore. We made a pit stop on the way to Duluth at Rush City Bakery.  Grand Marais Best Western this time. Sweet. Blake showing off his garden. When I asked Blake if we could stay at his house on the way to Grand Marais he mentioned there was going to be a poetry reading that night. I thought we wouldn't participate until we found out there would be a dunk tank involved.  It sounded lame. But it was once again a Duluth counterculture classic. Only Meadow was bored. But when is she not these days?

Redgranite Cabin Camping, Waushara County Fair and Meeting Baby Viola

This weekend we were going to stay at my grandpa's log cabin. Instead of driving straight to the cabin we stopped for the night at my parents house. Theo still loves to sleep in the crib.  I thought we could go see our new baby niece. But tbh, I just wanted to stay home for two weekends in the summer. No one really listens to me around here, so I caved in going to the hunting land. Whenever I come home there's always things for me to look through. Like this box of old toys. I found my whole collection of pogs that the kids insisted on taking home.  On July 13th our niece Viola was born. Since we were coming to Wisconsin we had to stop to meet her.   I thought having my own kids would make me comfortable holding babies but it's still scary.

Weekend Chores

These kids love their blanket forts.  I love mornings on the porch. I do not like fixing bikes, no matter what Brooke thinks. After I got a flat tire on my bike the tire was torn so it was time to replace. I found some tires from REI that were my size. They were online order only. Once they arrived and I tried to install them, we couldn't get them to fit. Turns out 26.5" bike tires are not the same as 26 1/2" bike tires. We brought them back to REI and purchased new ones. These tires fit, but were too beefy to fit under the fender. At this rate I was never getting my bike back.  FYI look at the number like 650B and not the standard measurement.

Star Island Canoe Camping on Minnesota's Cass Lake

Scott had a job in Moorhead. You know what that means, road trip!  I had to get a photo of Theo being sweet holding his Baby.  We stayed the night at a Best Western. I've been photographing a lot of these and they're all pretty dang nice. We spent the night swimming in their small waterpark.  I looked up the best playground in Fargo and found Maplewood Park.  Meanwhile I shot the Minnesota State - Moorhead campus. What was even better was that it had a ninja warrior course too. Mexico City has adult "playgrounds" next to all the kids playgrounds and I wish we had more of that here.  We had small ones all along the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee County. Not sure what Minneapolis' deal is. This was harder to do than it looked. The kids were much better at it than me. I've really gotten out of shape over the years.  She says this, but she still looks great.
