Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis.

I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.

Can you blame him. They look so cool.

We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.

We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.

It'll be here soon. Or will it?

Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

It's here, it's really finally here.

With the South Side Battletrain not far behind.

After the Battletrain we wandered the park for a bit thinking the parade was done. Apparently there was more after it.

Theo wanted a close up. IDK.

There's Meadow's people.

As is tradition, we went over to Mercado Central.

The kids got their tamales.

We waited and waited for our tacos. The tacos de arroz at Maria's Restaurante were well worth the wait.

Back at home I continued to excavate the creeping bellflower. My nemesis.

While Scott did some gardening I did some "unnecessary" cleaning of the shed.

Better.

Fine.

A Schools Out for Summer Bike Ride

Summer was finally here and we've all got bikes once again! When the kids want crepes, you gotta make them. Theo even helped me this time. Guess we could have used a bigger table out here.  We needed to scout a spot for Meadow's birthday party. We thought today we'd take a family bike ride on Minnehaha Parkway. Meadow got a new helmet over Memorial Weekend which really completed her new bike set up. She's so cute.  We stopped at Lyndale Farmstead Bike shop to fix the grips on Theo's bike.  Good as new. Always love Minneapolis in the spring. This spot seemed like a good one.  Theo wanted a portrait too. There was rain coming so we stopped to wait it out under the Nicollet Avenue bridge. We also saw a few people canoeing and kayaking on the creek.  These guys had the same idea as us.

Mr. Mike's 70th Birthday Weekend at the Cottage

Scott's shoot got cancelled so we decided to take another trip to the cottage.  We stopped for pizza again on the way, this time at Stone Oven Pizzeria in Cameron. We've always wanted to stop by. We went with the thin crust, which was good enough, but next we'll have to get their thick cut slices. When we arrived we were surprised to find that my dad had started on the upstairs addition. I wasn't convinced that his makeshift walls were going to keep animals out.  As far as we know they never did. Meadow always be crafting. I love watching my dad work. I just can't understand how his brain works and how he knows what to do. He's a genius of real world geometry. I can fix things around the house, but building a whole addition? No way. I might have sneaked a couple of pics from openings along the roof. This space ended up being way bigger than I thought it would. Who knew just raising the roof line could create so much extra space? It'll be nice having another...

RV Spring Break: Savannah to Miami

Oh, hey, we made it to Savannah. Time for a nice stroll (well, as leisurely as Brooke will allow).   I was pretty excited to be going to Savannah, even if we could only stay for a few hours. The tricky thing with having an RV is finding a place to park. The Fahm Avenue parking lot had RV spots and then we walked over to the historic district. Meadow should go to the Savannah College of Art and Design. You know, if she can get a scholarship. Savannah is just as cool in person as you think. I should have done at least one house tour. I had to embarrass Meadow with taking her photo in front of the first Girl Scout Headquarters.  Brooke got me to go into the beautiful Catholic church right in the historic district. I don't think I've ever been in a Cathedral Basilica. Usually it's one or the other. It seems like every few blocks there was a perfect square. We should build all cities like this. For lunch we went to Savannah Smokehouse . We ended up getting the sampler for 2, whi...
