Biking Southwest Minneapolis and the Mayday Parade 2026

Hey it's the weekend of the year in Minneapolis! It's Mayday weekend.

Another smiley breakfast to start the day. I think it's obvious who uses the living room the most in this family.

Since we are replacing our sink with a pedestal sink I found us a cabinet to go over our toilet. Our bathroom is really looking good.

It's not perfect, but it's a definite improvement from how it looked a month ago.

Theo always tries to get a swing in before we go anywhere.

Always fun to see a bike traffic jam on Blaisdell.

Theo graduated to a bigger bike this year.

He's still a little hesitant on his bike and unsure what to do with the gears. I'm pretty sure I had a simple single speed, back peddle braking bike at his age. In fact I was in second grade when I learned to bike.

Meadow with her new helmet. I've wanted to get one of these helmets (well not in pink), but now Brooke and Meadow have them. I guess I waited too long.

Meadow is part of a girls group at school.

Think Girl Scouts, but not a part of the official group.

They were having a bake sale this weekend for mutual aid for those affected by ICE.

We dropped her off and continued on Minnehaha Parkway.

I wanted to check out the (de)construction over at the Nicollet Avenue bridge over the parkway.

Then we biked back to the park and waited for Meadow.

Then we thought we'd bike over to go to "Boblokin" Woods, except we forgot our keys to lock our bikes.

So, instead we hung out at the Japanese garden.

They love climbing these trees.

I changed the front gear on Theo's bike and he cruised home.

Meadow really wants a bike basket on her bike. I took off the one from my old bike and gave it to her.

Theo and I have been throwing the old foam pigskin around the yard.

Coolest 12 year old out there.

I didn't take my morning walk thinking that I'd walk while Meadow did her bake sale. Since I didn't get my steps in I forced asked Scott and Theo to go with me.

I commented on all the yards I'd like to copy for our front slope.

One of these years we'll convert a bigger chunk of the yard to gardens.

Extra smiley breakfast for Theo today.

Then we biked over to the Mayday Parade.

This year we sat near the beginning of the parade.

Meadow even helped shade her little brother.

Waiting for the parade to start, Meadow read books while Theo and I played games.

The parade led off with the Mexican dancers which seemed fitting. It was great having the community out after a winter hiding from ICE.

I knew this year would be extra with everything that's happened the last few months.

Gotta love Minneapolis.

The battletrain is always the highlight.

There's not much to say other than Minneapolis rules.

We left the parade a little early to head over to Mercado Central for lunch. It was already packed when we got there.

Once we got back, Meadow and I took a quick trip to the library.

Has to read all her new books in one day.

Theo brought his favorite pillow outside and ripped it.

Theo helped met patch it. I see this pillow being full of patches some day.

Theo and I got in one more round of our football competition. Don't tell him, I'm just trying to improve his accuracy. Plus it's fun.

Six Months, More Like Six Years

Approaching the 11th hour of this Sunday we finally rolled out of bed. Brooke and I made a night out of our six month since being married. In a way we could be celebrating six plus years together. I met the little lady above in February 2006. Now we garden together. We had a lovely night indeed: dinner at Red Stag and drinks at Aster Cafe.  I went outside to show Brooke where our new boulevard tree was going to be planted. We found a love letter in our bushes. Brooke couldn't read it, so we let it dry on one of the radiators.  The first page was mostly apologizing for not writing and then the second page turned sour with lots of swear words.  We drove downtown to eat brunch. We parked across from this rare small pre-1950s building that has somehow survived in downtown Minneapolis's ongoing urban renewal. We decided to eat at La Belle Crepe since I picked up this for our post-wedding breakfast back on that October day. This creperie is...

Honeymoon: Duluth, Minnesota is Not Flooded. Long Live Long-Pong.

When the waitress asked for Blake's ID and he told her he was underage we were kicked out of the Thirsty Pagan. To not miss out on our favorite pizza and beer (and we had a coupon to use up) we ordered food to go. While waiting for our food we walked around the great, but sad city of Superior, Wisc. Heading directly out the door and towards the industrial waterfront this Charlie Brown block was plopped amongst the former industry.

A Few Thoughts to Pass the Time

I'm sitting at the library, my new hang out besides random coffee shops. Class isn't for another 2 hours and I've finished all my homework. There's a guy running across holding his pants up and rush hour is just setting in. I never realized how weird Minnesotians actually are until I saw American Idol last night. They were doing auditions in Minneapolis, which Randy liked to call Minnehopeless. I thought it was just the culinary students that we're weird at my school, but no it's the whole state. The majority of the people that I know here are not actually from Minnesota, only one that truely is seems ok to me. Maybe I'm just like them but I don't want to admit it. School is alright. It keeps me busy. I like that some classes only have 10 students. Everyone in my Nutrition class eats healthy and reads the ingredient list but me. At least I get to take home everything I make in my baking class. Summer seems so far away. I need to find a place to live befo...
