A Brief Duluth Respite and Another Tough Week in Minneapolis

Minneapolis has become worldwide news. The killing of George Floyd at the hands of police had sparked protests and riots in the city. The riots had moved closer to our neighborhood which meant little sleep.  I'd been watching over the street each night as rioting erupted. It wasn't until that Thursday that I realized that it was unsettling Brooke. At 1:30 in the morning we had heard screeching just as rioting was only a mile or so away now. It turned out to be nothing, but scared the shit out of us. Blake offered to have us come to his house. I had no faith that the night was going to get better. As we were driving up to Duluth we saw multiple posts on Facebook of neighborhoods getting together ready to stop the arsonists. It did make us feel guilty for leaving our neighbors.  But the kids were happy to get out of the house for the first time in months and they missed Blake. Visits to Blake and Duluth are always the perfect respite. Because of Covid-19 we

The Week That Changed Minneapolis

We were supposed to be at the cottage for Memorial Day weekend, but long story short, that did not happen. Instead we were invited for an outdoor cookout. On our way to Nate's house we had to stop and get gas. I had to document this moment because the last time we got gas was on March 8th coming home from my birthday weekend in Duluth. Thanks, Covid.

May Didn't Quite Get Canceled: Part III

Sunday called for downpours all day long. I got the kids in their rainsuits and we headed to the Rose Garden.  It was nice with no one here. Theo wanted to bring his ducky along on a walk but we couldn't find the doll carrier. His overalls would have to do. Meadow had to get outside for distance learning, so we went to the bird sanctuary next to Lake Harriet. Meadow had to tell her teachers what she heard, felt and saw. And she sent a picture and audio recording of the frogs in the marshy forest. Of course she needed to.   Scott had to work outside the home for the day while I worked from home. Once in awhile I'd come out to check on the kids. One time I caught Meadow making her own mug cake. I asked her what she put in it and she said, "I don't know, a little of this a little of that". It was actually not bad.  She even cleaned up after herself.  We have been working with the neighbors in our b

May Didn't Quite Get Canceled: Part II

Mother's day means handmade cards from Meadow. Also breakfast made by Meadow. Then Meadow made another breakfast banana split for her and Theo.

May Didn't Quite Get Canceled: Part I

Theo and I go for a walks or wagon rides while Meadow finishes up her school work. This is also the last photo we have of "baby," his blue teddy bear. Missing you "baby" aka Blue Boo. Baby went missing and we can't figure out where he is.  Meadow has been on a sewing streak again. This time she made a skirt with some leftover fabric from a dress I made her. She wanted to add the zig zag design to it too. Another one of those papa and Theo walks around the block. He's not fast, but he loves his balance bike. Theo has suddenly wanted to join in our wiffle ball games.  Meadow and her outfits. I'm more confused by the two weirdos playing horsey down our long driveway. Our local liquor store does curb side pickup and puts your order in your trunk for you. Or in our case our bike trailer. Of course I wear mask when I'm picking the beer up. I caught Meadow planting flower seeds in our yard in her pri
