A Cemetery Walk, Backyard Gardening and a Mother's Day Soccer Game

We've recently put Theo on a schedule.

Basically so we can get him out of the house. If it was up to him he'd just play video games all day, every day.

Wednesdays we have named Walk Wednesday. Last week we went to the T.S Roberts Bird Sanctuary and Theo kept saying he wanted to go to the cemetery.

So, we biked to the Lakewood Cemetery.

The cemetery has a brochure of all the notable gravestones.

Of course Mr. Loring, father of the park system, had a big one.

Hey, there's the historic street car driving by.

It was actually quite beautiful in here.

I want to be an Elk or Eagle. I need to get on that.

We'll have to come back as we only saw the northwest portion.

Theo led the way on the Bryant Avenue Bikeway. Can't wait to get more protected bike lanes this good.

Oh, hey it's Sunday. Look at this wicked light filtering through our radiators.

Spring has finally come along and our yard is looking better than ever.

Meadow is getting so big now that's she graduated to an adult bike. She wanted a Dutch style bike like mine. We had been searching Facebook Marketplace for weeks for another good deal on a Linus.

After messaging a few people, I found this Papillionaire bike, a now defunct brand out of Australia. Great find and got it for a song.

Since we were out this way we stopped at the Eden Prairie library.

Meadow and I both leave with a stack of books.

We then drove over to Lake Harriet for Theo's friend's birthday party.

We thought we would drop him off and walk around Lake Harriet. We ended up chatting and staying the whole time. It was nice to meet more parents in our neighborhood.

Meadow kept to herself in a tree nearby. What a goof.

A few of the kids wanted to do it too after seeing her up there.

An iPad outside, I guess...

Adding more wood chips and attempting to smother out more creeping bellflower.

The area under our pear and apple trees gets a bit chaotic by the end of summer. I split some hostas and tried to break up the lilies that don't flower.

This is the one corner of the yard that seems to preoccupy Brooke.

I got homemade gifts from the kids for Mother's Day. This pop up card from Meadow is amazing.

As I do on mother's day, we got plants for our gardens. This year we tried a new-to-us garden center in Eagan.

Pahl's Market, as you can see.

Back at home we quickly made a go to spring meal: egg and asparagus sandwiches.

A couple weeks ago at the Pentz Home's picnic, Theo won tickets to a Minnesota Aurora game. This was the first time I had watched a soccer game in over 20 years. I had a lot of questions.

I don't really remember you asking any.

It was a pretty chill affair.

You can sit anywhere you want. We opted for the shadier grassier area which got uncomfortable after awhile.

Theo wins again with a t-shirt and sunglasses.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...

Money DOES Buy Happiness

I got a wake up call when I realized all the loans I took out for school actually went for school. I'm only working part-time at Menards now which is just enough to pay the rent and bills. My phase of being poor wasn't really a phase, but actually permanent. I took out another loan so I would have extra cash to feed me (being poor is the best diet). I won't see that money for another month which means no time off for a Christmas break. I have to wait a few more days to find out if I even get Christmas Eve off. This is by far the sadest Christmas ever for me. It doesn't even feel like Christmas. Only one house on my street put lights up, I'm used to everyone in my whole town putting up lights. Plus we don't have a tree or any decorations and we haven't had any snow yet. I did get a Christmas present from Menards, 55 dollars in Menards money and this. In two weeks someone I love and care about very deeply will be in London for 5 months and I only get to see hi...

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.
