A Weekend of Bike Rides

With the kids finishing up school we had to treat them to Sushi Train. They picked the downtown location, which meant a family bike ride. Theo asked why we don't go to this location anymore. The other location is more convenient but we agreed to go the one downtown this time.

I swear we did in fact eat sushi.

We seem to always miss strawberry picking season. This year I was determined to go. Afton Apple was the first place I found that was open for the season.

One of their old fields that they were ready to retire was producing a lot of fruit this year.

Luckily today turned out to be a cooler day.

I treated the kids to strawberry shakes.

Then we drove over to Prescott to pick up some food for lunch and ate at Point Douglas Park.

Then we did some hiking at Carpenter Nature Center to do some geocaching.

Later Scott and I bike through some rain to Northeast to go to the soon to be closing Bauhaus one last time.

Gonna miss you Bauhaus.

In the morning I treated the kids to crepes.

Another day and another bike ride to downtown. This time to the Mill City Farmers Market.

Theo rode on the cargo bike this time around instead of the tag along.

Getting to downtown isn't the easiest from our house. That is until the two way bike lane on First Avenue officially opens.

We passed a few of my Minneapolis favorites.

Apparently the Mill City Famers Market is the place to be seen on a Saturday morning.

We got a few things, I was hoping for more. The kids spotted their favorite popsicle stand.

Since we were down here we decided to check out the Guthrie Theater and its endless bridge.

Since we had bought eggs and didn't bring a cooler we stopped at Trader Joe's for frozen fruit and other snacks.

Still Theo's favorite toy.

That was a good weekend.

Meadow's 13th Birthday Party

We woke up to down pouring rain. Once the rain had slowed down, Theo and I walked over to the Kingfield Farmers Market. Theo picked another Bundt cake as his treat. I have never seen it so dead. I got some rhubarb to make jam and Israeli bagels that I wasn't expecting to be long. On our walk home we also picked up some free pots and a Minecraft book. Both of our vacuums have bit the dust. I was trying to hold out until Black Friday to buy another one when I saw there was deals thanks to Prime Day. Theo said he's never seen me this excited before, not even my birthday. I used up all of my gift cards I'd earned from Medica. Yeah, I know, it's weird. Walking for two years got us a vacuum. I had vacuumed in the morning with our old vacuum and then again with our new one. Ew. Usually I'm the one stressing out before guests come over but this time it was Scott. A 250th 4th of July in Three Lakes

A couple of weeks after we were last up at the cottage, you say? Not soon enough, we say. We assumed dinner would have already been done by the time we arrived so we stopped to eat at Culver's in Rhinelander. While we were eating, I got a text from my dad saying he was in Rhinelander with Chelsea at Urgent Care. I guess Viola had taken a hard fall. When we got to the cottage Daniel was just starting dinner. We hadn't seen Viola since Christmas, she's a little girl now. She was super shy around us at first. She did also just get back from the hospital. I'm not sure if I approve of fireworks the night we get there, but due to scheduling conflicts that's when Three Lakes got in their fireworks show. 2nd of July fireworks would do. The next morning Blake made us croissant breakfast sandwiches for breakfast. Then Viola and I played down by the dock. Theo would have made a good big brother. Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up.
