Hot Day, Dinkytown Down

It was another late morning for us. As always Scott entertains Meadow while I eat breakfast. I already miss the days when mornings were slow and we'd have breakfasts together. I'm usually so hungry from feeding her all night I can't wait to eat.

The heat was so bad, I don't think I"d cook either way.

At night Meadow will sleep in her own bed just fine. During the day she has to be held by us. If we try to set her down she wakes up right away. Scott set her in the boppy and she actually stayed asleep.

For some reason I decided it was a good time to weed my wildflower garden. It's looking pretty good.

When I came back inside Peanut had joined Meadow near the cool tiles.

Every year we get mystery plants growing in our garden from our compost. This year we got tomatillos and cherry tomatoes.

The corn is doing quite well.

Since our wildflower garden is actually doing well this year, I picked some flowers to cheer up our house.

Between our CSA, garden and WIC we really hadn't needed to go grocery shopping except to pick up a couple things here and there. This was our first real trip this month.

On the way home I wanted to check out my college apartment and the neighboring House of Hanson and Duffy's Pizza. They will all be demolished very soon.

Two of my roommates worked here during school. It was overpriced, but it was locally owned and extremely convenient. They also carried Sockarooni.

We lived in the place on the left. It was once a beautiful Italianate  Victorian. The Duffy's (owners of the pizza place next door) hadn't exactly kept it up.

I don't think our keggers did it any service.

I've already told this story, but across the street was UTEC, which housed the Wake Student Magazine. I worked there for the final two years of my undergraduate degree. A lot of fun was had at these locations. They will be missed.

At the same time I believe in urbanism. These two streets were primarily parking lots for the Dinkytown businesses. A real city should thrive based on street life and good transit connections. I don't know if these building could've been a part of a denser Minneapolis.

Back at home we had lunch and ice cream.

I think we have an ice cream problem.

Meadow loves her black and white mobile. It's the only thing that can keep her entertained for awhile. I wish it wasn't above her changing table so I could get stuff done while she looks at it. I thought I'd make one quick to put in the living room. She seems interested in lights and shiny things so I thought a tin foil one would be perfect. She doesn't seem to notice it unless its moving.

Wow another successful nap on her own. Must be the heat.

Scott was busy editing photos from weddings he shot the last two days. Being baby free I was able to help make dinner.

And do some organizing in our cupboards.

Then we ended the night by watching another episode of Breaking Bad

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Dakotas Road Trip: Badlands and Black Hills

I thought we would skip Wall Drug this time since we've seen it before but Scott was gun ho on going.  Come on. You can't go to the Badlands and skip the world's greatest tourist trap. First stop ice cream.  We thought we would have lunch here but after seeing the prices decided we would cook something at the park instead. But first we had to take a couple tourist pics. When we we decided we were coming here I was expecting it to be 90's and hot. Did not think it would be rainy, chilly and foggy.  I always make Brooke look cool. She on the other hand always finds a way to take a pic at the most awkward possible moment. Either that or I'm just really awkward. Earlier this year, I asked Theo where he wanted to go on vacations this year. He said he wanted to backpack camp at the Badlands because he was sad he didn't get to go yet. This is all for you buddy.

4th of July 2025: Our Annual Romenesko Reunion

4th of July, you say? Of course we were going up to Three Lakes and the cottage. I took a half day on Thursday and we headed to the cottage. Scott had to stop in Lindstrom which brought us to an old favorite for lunch in Taylor's Falls, The Drive In . Still pretty, pretty good. Even though it was super hot today, we had to keep our AC on.  This is the one time of the year where the whole family is together. Exchanging of belated birthday gifts it is. Theo didn't know what he wanted so he got money. Meadow got a new hairbrush and the Warriors Ultimate Guide Book. We all seem to stick to our greatest hits for the 4th weekend. Brittany and Jeff once again made table nachos. This is making me want nachos back home. Do we look alike? I think that with this seating arrangement that you can see how both Chelsea and Brooke look like Brittany, but Brooke and Chelsea don't look anything alike. The good place.  Blake already had a quest for the kids to do. Why does Brooke look this cu...
