A December Romenesko Wedding and Theo's First Hockey Practice

My dads side of the family used to get together on Christmas Eve. Since Covid they stopped doing that. Mostly because our family is so large, no one was able to host anymore. When we got an invite to one of my cousins weddings, I figured we should go since I hadn't seen my aunts and uncles in a long time.

Our drive to Wisconsin wasn't great. This is why I don't like traveling in winter.

I told Theo he's going to have to sleep on the bed in the office this time. But silly bub said he could still sleep in the crib.

No kids at the wedding so these two would get to hang out all day.

After the wedding ceremony a few of us met up at The Vault in downtown Appleton.

Their pizza was pretty good.

After getting drinks and pizza we went downstairs to check out the vault.

A cute picture of Brooke and me in the 2020s? Didn't think it was possible.

We got one of the Gostishas as well.

This is a cool space.

I didn't want to be a weirdo and bring my camera to a wedding. Only the photographers are allowed to lug around their big cameras.

Before my uncle passed away he worked nights. In the mornings after his shift he would get donuts for his girls. I love that donuts were the dessert.

IDK, but Jeff wasn't having it.

I had to get a picture of the Romenesko ladies all dressed up.

We all coordinate too.

Meanwhile, the kids were busy decorating a gingerbread house.

The Macarena is the only song that I'll dance to.

Next door to the venue was a bar owned by one of Chelsea's friends: Calavera's Fine Fusions.

We have to come back sometime to get their food too.

The kids were also busy making Christmas cookies.

Meadow designed our Christmas card this year. Scott was matching his character today.

We signed up Theo for Minneapolis Parks co-ed rec league hockey, so we drove straight back to Minnesota so he wouldn't miss his first two practices.

When we arrived he was really nervous and didn't have his hockey socks yet, but he sure did look cool.

He was scared, but so confident at first.

He looked super tired out there and kept on giving us angry looks. This made me nervous he wouldn't want to come back. We'll have to see if he made it past the first practice.

When practice ended he came out crying saying this was even worse than what he thought. Some of the other kids were pretty good. There were a few skills Theo couldn't do. Guess we'll have to practice on our rink.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Flushing Queens, Chinatown and Buffalo Briefly

Well, you didn't think I was done traveling for work, did you? I swear I had a shoot in rural in Bradford, PA. But you'll never know it. I got there late and had to leave straight for Buffalo to fly out to NYC for a shoot on Long Island. I did manage to briefly stop in Western New York State's Ellicottvile. I managed to get back to Buffalo with just enought time to stop for a Beef on Weck at Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen . While I quite liked Baltimore Pit Beef, I think Beef on Weck is even better. An unsung American sandwich hero. It's really about that bun. A cross between a kaiser roll and pretzel bun. Amazing stuff.

The Biggest Maple Tree in Minnesota

On the night before St Patricks Day, Meadow made a leprechaun trap.  Maybe next year Meadow.   Meadow was having a rough morning and needed a hug.  She wanted to play Zelda all day long. The rest of us wanted to go on a hike. We spend so much time getting these kids to get outside and once they are outside they don't want to come back in. Scott chose this weeks hike based off his current love of old growth forests. Wolsfeld Woods SNA just west of the cities in Medina. It's home to the tallest sugar maple in the state.
