While Scott Goes to Vermont We Go on an Adventure

Every morning must start with Nintendo Switch time.

Every morning must always start with porch breakfast.

Theo told me he wants to start learning how to cook and bake. We started our first lesson with making scrambled eggs.

Also Theo decided earlier this week he wanted his haircut. He was sick of his hair blowing in his eyes and touching his neck. He also mentioned that a couple kids at school asked if he was a boy or girl.

Today was library day. Theo always complains about going but then loves playing with all the toys.

We've officially reached the age of finding books in the Teen section.

We picked up some food for lunch and had a picnic at Nearstrand State Park. The wasps wouldn't leave us alone until we put away anything sweet.

First, play in the leaves.

Next, climb trees.

Then, play on the nature playground.

Now we can see the waterfall. I had been wanting to take the kids here all summer. Wish I had when there was more rain and the waterfall would have existed.

Not as much fun as Gooseberry Falls.

Then we did the hiking club trail. We only needed a couple more miles to earn our 50 mile badge

Meadow carried this branch most of the way.

Nice job, kiddos. We earned our 25 mile badge in 2021.

I told the kids if they were good hikers we could get ice cream.

Back at home I worked on knitting a knitted vest for Meadow.

Theo worked on his sewing and Meadow worked on her rug hook.

We have been loving the Little House on the Prairie series lately.

Theo added his name to his project.

Meadow has also been obsessed with making bracelets.

Not quite Vermont but we still had fun.

RV Spring Break: Savannah to Miami

Oh, hey, we made it to Savannah. Time for a nice stroll (well, as leisurely as Brooke will allow).   I was pretty excited to be going to Savannah, even if we could only stay for a few hours. The tricky thing with having an RV is finding a place to park. The Fahm Avenue parking lot had RV spots and then we walked over to the historic district. Meadow should go to the Savannah College of Art and Design. You know, if she can get a scholarship. Savannah is just as cool in person as you think. I should have done at least one house tour. I had to embarrass Meadow with taking her photo in front of the first Girl Scout Headquarters.  Brooke got me to go into the beautiful Catholic church right in the historic district. I don't think I've ever been in a Cathedral Basilica. Usually it's one or the other. It seems like every few blocks there was a perfect square. We should build all cities like this. For lunch we went to Savannah Smokehouse . We ended up getting the sampler for 2, whi...

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...
