A Father's Day Adventure

Father's and Mother's Day weren't a big deal in the Tuska household. The Romenesko's on the other hand love every holiday. So happy Father's Day to me.

Since I didn't get a gift for Mother's Day Scott doesn't get one for Father's Day.

I guess our gift is our sweet  baby girl.

This girl is getting cuter everyday.

Granola, berries and homemade yogurt. This is a perfect late spring breakfast.

Yogurt mustaches are necessary.

One of Meadow's favorite hobbies, pulling everything out of the recycling bin.

Apparently a bike trailer wasn't enough. Brooke wanted an old fashioned baby seat, so I took off her baskets.

He complained the whole time that he didn't want to spend his Father's Day working on stuff. I thought Father's Day was silly?

I'm going to miss those baskets, I think I will need a front one in the mean time. I wanted the bike seat so that I can take Meadow on bike rides alone and if you want to go to the library or something I don't want to have to worry about the bike trailer.

Meadow's got the crab crawling down.

We finally have strawberries. This season has been so late.

I had to get a new vine trellis since the one I made broke. The vines were pulling to hard on the string and caused the wood to crack in half.

Our first harvest, collards.

Little rascal wanted to get in on all of Scott's tools.

Wait isn't this Father's Day. Shouldn't they be doing something for me?

Testing out the new seat. It seems like she can move her head better. It does cause the bike to be a little more off balance than it used to.

Meadow's tiny noggin looks so funny in her helmet. Yes, it does in fact fit pretty well.

Back inside we had some kind of leftover pasta.

While Meadow took a nap I attempted to change our upstairs porch light. It turns out I'll need some masonry screws and drill bits.

Every week I like to pick a bouquet of flowers from our yard. I love peonies and am always sad that they are only around for a short period of time.

Meadow soon woke up from her nap.

A new way to take Meadow on bike rides means that we should go on a bike ride.

Scott suggested going to get ice cream. I thought we were going to go for a short ride.

I think we would've got some Izzy's Ice Cream, but their line was around the corner.

Instead we tried the new Dinkytown Greenway.

This was nice. I don't know why they didn't put this in a lot sooner.

It was the opening day of the second light rail in the Twin Cities, the Green Line. It takes you from downtown Mpls to downtown St. Paul along University Avenue.

Rides were free the whole weekend. We thought we would try it out. We used to take public transportation a lot before Meadow was born. This was her first time.

Once in downtown St. Paul I had to get a picture with my special girl.

On the light rail I said we should eat at Micky's Diner since we were going to St. Paul.

We had to sit at the counter, but Meadow was ok with that.

The cook and the waitress loved her.

The cook insisted on making Meadow a Mickey Mouse panckae.

She ate the whole thing.

I did help a little.

I love that this place has been unchanged since probably the 50's. Check out their coffee makers.

Brooke got a One Eyed Jack while I got a classic burger and mulligan stew. I love Mickey's Diner.

We also shared a raspberry malt.

We had to get back to Minneapolis and headed back to the Green Line.

This time we left Meadow in her seat since she was getting really antsy on the way there. We took the train all the way to the Twin's stadium and biked the rest of the way home. It was almost 9:00 by the time we got home.

Chicago Chrismukkah + Michigander Xmas

Before heading out on our trip we let the kids open their Christmas gifts from us. A knitted sweater for Theo and a kitty dress for Meadow (I fixed the straps for her) both made by me. I wanna a sweater. Scott got them new compact sleeping bags. We all got smaller sleeping bags this year and we'll now have a lot more room in our car. This year we had talked about hosting my family at the cottage. Then meeting up in Milwaukee, then meeting in Chicago. But in the end we made stops in Chicago and Lowell this Christmas. We left on a Sunday which was nice to have a few days to prepare. On the way down to Chicago we stopped at our favorite roadside restaurant, Foster Cheese Haus. We had plans to break up our drives so we didn't have to rush like we normally do. We had made it just before the cheese haus was set to close for the winter. Just not enough folks stop here in winter and snowmobile season is becoming shorter and shorter this far so...

Duluth Workcation: June 2022 Edition

Had another shoot up in Duluth. This time an overnight stay was included. So I brought the family along. Then we just stayed the rest of the weekend at Blake's.   As soon as we both returned home earlier in the week we had to get our attic prepped. We were getting all the knob and tube replaced so insulation could go in.         Back in Duluth we opted for the room with the lake view. The kids wanted to go swimming, but Brooke had other plans and I had to take some twilight photos. The kids and I walked around Canal Park. We made sure to wave to the webcam and then they just had fun climbing on the old anchors.   Scott had to work for most of the day so you know what we did. Yes, that's right, a Hiking Club Trail. Today took us to Tettegouche State Park.  We came here for my birthday when Meadow was little. We had never been on the lake side.  What a view.  We had a picnic lunch and had plans to go see some waterfalls, but the kids wer...

Freaster Sunday

We decided to stay home for Easter this year. We've missed the past few years and seem to be okay with it. We still celebrate in our own way. For breakfast I made oat bran. This time I sweetened it with a little agave. Scott seems to think I only like my oats bland, but that's not true. I make truly interesting oats. Agave, my friends, does not make oatmeal tasty. If you're looking for a quick, but complex variation try this recipe the next time you have a few extra minutes -- unless you like bland-meal. Steel-cut Oats w/ Apple Chips, Raisins and Cinnamon 1 C Water 2/3 C Steel Cut Oats Handful of Apple Chips 1/4 C Raisins 2 T Brown Sugar 1 t Cinnamon Pinch of Salt Cook the first two ingredients for a few minutes over medium heat. When water starts to simmer lower heat and add dried fruit. Cook until tender. While still on heat add a teaspoon of cinnamon, two tablespoons brown sugar and a pinch of salt. Eat. Scott looked for his Easter ba...
