Babies and Thanksgiving

Blake and I arrived at my aunts house the same time Brittany, Jeff and Marina had arrived.

A little while later we arrived in Eureka.

Meadow kept pushing herself backwards into Marina. Then Marina would try to touch Meadow's foot.

This was the first time Meadow and her cousins were together. It was a good thing there was a lot of people to pass around the babies.

Brooke's Aunt Jill loved taking care of our little tike, though I think Nolan is her favorite.

Brittany had made me a nursing scarf and forgot to bring it. Thinking I would use that I didn't bring my cover. I borrowed Nolan's blanket in the meantime.

Marina is getting big. I tried holding her a few times, but she's picky.

With spouses and babies Thanksgiving keeps getting bigger.

As always there's football to watch.

We had to get a photo of the babies with their great-grandparents. This photo sums up each of them pretty well.

These were the best two images. It was impossible to get a good shot. It didn't help having five people trying to snap a shot either.

Meadow needed her mom after that raucous.

Next year we will have to have a separate children's table as opposed to the kids table we still eat at.

I spy Meadow eating somebody's fingers.

Apothic Red, the wine Gail made us pick up the other day, turned out to be decent.

Marina loved playing with all of Nolan's toys.

Then my mom arrived after a shift at work.

I think she brought the ice with her.

Can you tell Blake and Grandma are related?

Someone's always  playing with a puzzle during the after dinner relaxation hour.

So many babies. It was like being at a day care.

Uncle Steve put on some baby TV. Meadow prefers football.

This was the first time Meadow has met her great-grandpa.

We all were tired for various reasons and skipped our annual walk. Whoopie pies would suffice.

We also had to get a photo with the cousins together.

Gail needs a new camera.

Marina and Meadow weren't having it after awhile. Nolan didn't understand what all the fuss was about.

Even without Nolan the baby girls were being divas.

I tried to get a peek at Marina's new teeth before they left.

We called it quits early this year. When we got to the car I said to Brooke, "It's only 5:30?" I guess I'd been up for twelve hours.

My dad had built me this horse rocker/bouncer when I was 2. Someday Meadow will get to use it. I took it home with us and plan to repaint over all the scribbles.

Blake loves his new nieces and nephew.

It was fun being in Little Chute, but we had to go see my rents.

This post is in loving memory of Grandpa Jack who passed away on Tuesday, December 10. It was great to see him one last time.

Looking at Grandpa holding the babies makes me want to go hug him.

I was thinking about stealing that horse but I really like the IKEA moose better.

Chicago Chrismukkah + Michigander Xmas

Before heading out on our trip we let the kids open their Christmas gifts from us. A knitted sweater for Theo and a kitty dress for Meadow (I fixed the straps for her) both made by me. I wanna a sweater. Scott got them new compact sleeping bags. We all got smaller sleeping bags this year and we'll now have a lot more room in our car. This year we had talked about hosting my family at the cottage. Then meeting up in Milwaukee, then meeting in Chicago. But in the end we made stops in Chicago and Lowell this Christmas. We left on a Sunday which was nice to have a few days to prepare. On the way down to Chicago we stopped at our favorite roadside restaurant, Foster Cheese Haus. We had plans to break up our drives so we didn't have to rush like we normally do. We had made it just before the cheese haus was set to close for the winter. Just not enough folks stop here in winter and snowmobile season is becoming shorter and shorter this far so...

A 50s Era Map Guides Us on a Twin Cities Day Trip in the Fiala's Giant SUV

Another week and another house full of crazy Fiala kids. One day June asked if he could have a half-sandwich/half-bagel. We obliged.

Third Annual Torres-Tuska Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza (Plus Harvest Garden Cleanup)

The first frost was finally coming. It was time to clean out the garden and harvest what was remaining. Here's are first success at celery.  Our best garden yet. Next year we have a new plan on where to plant things since most plants die from being crowded by others.  They were crowded because someone didn't read the many rules of square-foot gardening. Planting four brussels sprouts next to one another is not the way to do it. Anyways...a few days later... We still haven't turned on our heat. I thought using the oven today would be a good idea. I made big pancake for breakfast and Scott says, "I'm getting sick of big pancake." How can you get sick of big pancake? It's really tasty and all, but there some many other options. Meadow watched from below.  And above.  She's really getting interested in food. A few more months little bear. Meadow has been very grabby lately. Especially during feedings. T...
