Frisbee Forever

Blake and his Occupier-mate Justin came to visit to go to Mayday. Unfortunately the rain we had this weekend caused flooding which postponed the festival to next week.

Scott made us pancakes for breakfast.

Scott convinced Blake to put barley malt syrup on his pancakes. Blake did not like it.

Scott tried it too.

I also found it to be not so good on pancakes.

After we ate we drank tea and had good conversation.

The actual reason we have barley malt syrup is for kaiser rolls. They proofed overnight in the fridge so they lost their shape.

After breakfast Brooke quickly did the dishes.

Blake, Justin and Brooke decided they wanted to go Frisbee golfing. I begrudgingly joined them and then had fun.

On the way we got lost and couldn't find the bridge over the highway.

Scott had never played frisbee golf before. I played a lot in high school, up until I moved here.

Everybody but me were old pros.

For some reason Justin leaned this large branch on the tree.

We were told the tee for the 9th hole was behind the rock at the end of the trail on your left.

And it was there.
It was also behind two giant piles of sand.

Right around the final hole Blake found some burdock and later a bunch of garlic mustard.

Then we decided to bike to Bad Waitress for lunch.

Foraging will make you hungry.

On our way back through Golden Valley Blake and Justin decided to brave the flooded trail. We took a different approach.

We took a quick break at Cedar Lake.

Justin and Brooke were pooped by the time we go to the Waitress.

Scott made us take the scenic route.

In the six years that Brooke has lived in Minneapolis we've ate at Bad Waitress more than any other restaurant. Somehow we never took Blake there. He ordered the famed Robert Palmer.

We got a chocolate malt.

They messed up my order and made a quesadilla instead of a burrito. The waitress was nice enough to give us the 'dilla.

Though this is Brooke's photo, this is probably what I stared at while waiting for my food.

Yay, grilled cheeese!

It's the only place I still order grilled cheese from. C'mon it has 3 layers of bread!

Brooke thought we should walk to downtown.

I was too full to start biking right away.

I dropped my bike while taking this one.

It was probably karma for me bad mouthing the occupiers at Peavey Plaza.

Justin and Brooke were wusses and stopped instead of biking through a yellow light.

Hey it was red when Blake crossed. There are a lot of bad drivers out there. I didn't feel like getting run over by someone late for the Twins game.
When we got home we did a lot of this.

We ended the night watching the movie Super. We had seen the previews and thought this movie would be really funny. It had it's fair share of laughs, but it was also very disturbing. I had to cover my eyes half the time. I do NOT recommend it.

What a horrible movie. What a fun day!

The facial expressions and the stances in this blog post were hilarious. I especially like the one of Scott on his tip-toes about to throw the Frisbee.

I can’t believe how much you guys bike. It reminds me of the time that Jeff and I came and you walked us to the Guthrie building and you said, “Oh it’s not far” and we were SO wiped by the end.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Tuska Brothers' Packers Weekend or How We Ate Our Way Through Green Bay

My rad brother hooked us up with a pair of Packers tickets at Lambeau. We've been talking about doing this for years now and it was finally happening! A Tuska Brothers' Packers Weekend. We met up at the bar at Kroll's West where he was already noshing on a sausage and black olive pizza. Are we even brothers? Doesn't he know that sausage always goes with green bell peppers or spinach? We got the cheapest hotel room in town at the Bay Motel and Family Restaurant . It looks straight out of the 50s and I don't think its trying to be cute. To be honest the place is just nice. After settling in we got beer over at Badger State Brewing. Our friend Jordan , who we just met up with a few weeks back in Seattle, designed some of their newest cans. So we had to stop by. That's so cool. After a couple of beers we drove up the bay to Club Chalet in Benderville for an authentic Wisconsin Supper Club experience.

Work Trip: Flushing Queens, Chinatown and Buffalo Briefly

Well, you didn't think I was done traveling for work, did you? I swear I had a shoot in rural in Bradford, PA. But you'll never know it. I got there late and had to leave straight for Buffalo to fly out to NYC for a shoot on Long Island. I did manage to briefly stop in Western New York State's Ellicottvile. I managed to get back to Buffalo with just enought time to stop for a Beef on Weck at Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen . While I quite liked Baltimore Pit Beef, I think Beef on Weck is even better. An unsung American sandwich hero. It's really about that bun. A cross between a kaiser roll and pretzel bun. Amazing stuff.
