Gift Cards are for Spending

Thanks to daylight savings I got up extra early today.

For breakfast I had eggs. You thought it was going to be oatmeal didn't you?

Scott was working his early shift at work so I worked on chores. I hate when he works when I have off, but in a way I get more done with him gone. Like dishes.

Our last two pumpkins from our garden.

Before they could start going bad I roasted them in the oven.

I then soaked the seeds in salty water for roasting later.

This week I decided to clean out our buffet drawers. Each drawer was turning into a junk drawer and needed to be cleaned.

I first took everything out to go through what I needed and what could be thrown away/recycled.

I pureed the pumpkin to be used for future use. Like pumpkin woopie pies, mmm.

While cleaning out the drawers I stumbled upon some items left behind from the previous owners.

Now there are tons of room in the drawers.

As Brooke mentioned earlier I'm working 7 a.m. to 3 shifts quite often on Sundays. I knew we were going to head out when I got home, so I got ready to leave.

I'm glad we still had half the day left together.

Except Brooke hadn't ate yet. So I sat waiting for her to finish.

He didn't seem that impatient seeing as he went right for the peanut butter.

To keep myself busy I watched this Occupy Duluth story featuring Blake.  This is the second time he's been on a Minnesota TV station this year. Here's a link to the first one.

We got a Crate and Barrel gift card from Brooke's coworkers, so we headed down to Edina to see what we could get.

They had some great stuff, but we couldn't decide on anything/we have way too many kitchen gadgets already. When we drove through Uptown on the way back we decided we'd wait to spend the rest at the new CB2 when it is finished.

Before heading back to the city we went to Target to drop off our disposable cameras from the wedding and return our topsy turvy ironing board.

We didn't really have food at home, so we decided to go to one of Brooke's favorite restaurants, The Bad Waitress. They call it that because you have to write your order on a piece of paper and pay at the register.

Whenever we go here Brooke reads Vita.mn and I read City Pages, the two alt-weeklies in the cities.

They don't deliver these to our part of the city so I was actually excited to read one.

I got the grilled cheese and tomato and basil soup. The grilled cheese here is awesome because it has three pieces of bread and two layers of cheese.

I ordered the volcano burger, the Waitress's take on the juicy lucy. It was supposed to be stuffed with habernero peppers and cheese. All I tasted was an overcooked burger with cheese. Next time we go there I'm sticking to the breakfast food.

It was early, so we stuck around and ordered a strawberry malt. For the second time I forgot to write/tell the barista that we were sitting at the Hulk table.

We enjoyed our very liquidy, almost English, malt. Let me explain the English part.

About four years ago I studied in London. Almost weekly I'd head over to Brick Lane and check out the markets. There was a food truck that served chocolate items. They had a chocolate malt on the menu. Instead of being the super-thick American counterpart it was more or less a chocolate milk. So when I get a thin malt, I think back to the chocolate malt that wasn't really a shake at all.

Our exciting night came to end with us unpacking what we bought. The only item we got from Crate and Barrel was this bamboo skimmer. We don't have any room in the drawer, so I don't know where it's going.

In the overstuffed utensil holder on the counter.

Yes I thought it was going to be oatmeal. You surprised me.

What a bummer about the volcano burger…it sounded good. I think that Bad Waitress is a funny name considering there is no waitress…how different.

If I could loan you some of our cupboard space, I would.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Scott Goes to Florida

As I mentioned in the last post, I had a job down in Florida at the tail end of the week. Daytona Beach to be precise.    I proposed the whole family tag along, but they did not like the idea of Florida in the Summer. Anyways, after my shoot I checked Ormond Beach just to the north of Daytona. Theo is allergic to the sun and I knew he would hate going.  If there wasn't four lanes of busy traffic, this town would be great.

Biking to Doors Open Minneapolis 2025

This weekend was Doors Open. We had missed the last couple years so I had a big list of places to see. I thought we'd drive to get to more places quickly, but Scott insisted we bike as it was easier to park.  Theo and I were ready to take some pics. We started out at the Rand Tower. My personal favorite Minneapolis skyscraper. Next we got to see inside a manhole. They had robots patrolling the sewer and a live video feed on a TV.  Then we walked over to the Dayton's Project. I really wish their food hall idea would have followed through, it's sad to see it so empty.  It's still mostly empty and I'm not sure if they know what to do with the space. We got to go in the nooks and crannies of the old JB Hudsons space, like this the old window display. There was lounge or bar that was opening soon to the public.
