One More Weekend on the Backyard Rink and a St. Paul Night Out

One thing we loved in Japan was the milk bread toast we had for breakfast. I attempted to replicate it at home.

I need to find a shokupan so I can actually get a full square loaf of bread. My bread was a little too small to hold the egg. Wish I had thought of this before we left Japan.

I'm not sure how they manage to cook it through without burning. We'll have to figure that out.

I also regret not buying matcha in Japan. Thankfully I found some at an Asian market. I also had to watch a bunch of videos to figure out how to make matcha. Once you figure it out, it's pretty easy.

I cleared the rink and resurfaced it for one more weekend out on the backyard rink.

The ice wasn't perfect, but it was just fun to be out there with Theo.

Meanwhile, Meadow and I walked over to our local thrift store.

Meadow found herself a cute hat.

Too bad these weren't in my size.

I've been eyeing a pair of those for years.

Once in awhile Theo remembers he has toys.

But he'd rather be playing hockey or video games.

The ice wasn't perfectly smooth.

I tried doing a trick and fell. Gosh it hurts to fall when you're older. Theo came over to check on me.

Going to miss backyard rink season.

Theo and Meadow had forgot about the lemons in our fridge. So we had to make a little batch of lemonade with the lemons that survived the trip to Tokyo.

Our trip to Japan was way cheaper than we expected. We weren't sure we'd do a spring break trip this year and then decided to go for it. I picked up some books at the library to plan for our next RV road trip.

We hadn't been to the science museum in a while, so why not make it a night over in St. Paul.

Theo would just come to the museum to do this the whole time if we let him.

They play it every single time.

It was getting too late to make dinner at home and Scott has been itching to go to Mickey's Diner again. There was a state wrestling tournament at the Treasure Island Arena. I was expecting it to be packed, but we scored ourselves a table right away.

We had went here right before COVID, but hadn't been back since. It closed during the pandemic and then never reopened until this past year.

I was clearly excited to be back. Oh and I fell this week on my right eye. I had a big shiner.

The menu had changed a little bit.

It wasn't quite the same, but it's just nice having it open.

Once we saw the bill we were a little sad to not be in Japan anymore. Makes me not want to eat out as much.

That's not new. Ha.

Stillwater Waterfall and MN River Valley Hiking

Scott had to take some sunset photos in Stillwater.  A fall color aerial 360. I hadn't been there in awhile so we tagged along. We left as soon as Meadow was done for school and headed for the St Croix Boom Site. I had heard there was a hidden waterfall and wanted to check it out. There's not a specific trail to it. From what I read you go down the stairs and take a left following the river.  I think it's an old state trail that isn't maintained and has way too much graffiti.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Over the River & Through the Woods to Grandmothers House We Clean

My mom had wanted us to come down to my grandparents home to clean for months. Unfortunately a busy summer had kept us away. We finally made it a week after our honeymoon ended. We slept at my parents home in Cudahy before heading down to Racine. We got home from our trip on Tuesday and left for Milwaukee on Thursday. It was almost like an extended vacation. Before leaving the cities we stopped and had dinner at Foxy Falafel. It was pretty good and I like that she uses sprouted chickpeas.  I never knew my grandparents on Poppyseed Tuska's side so Grandma and Grandpa Wojcik were a special part of my life. They both passed away last year after living nearly 90 wonderful years.  Their home was always a wonderfully warm and inviting place. The perfect place to spend your Christmas Eve in front of a fire place. Since it's going to be sold, Brooke and I took on the massive task of organizing and cleaning the home. When Scott told me h...
