St. Nick and Backyard Ice Skating

St. Nick came!

St Nick is the best. Just ask Theo.

It definitely shows in his face.

And Meadow!

Theo got Christmas pajamas, a mini Transformer, a penguin ornament, Andes Mints and another Dog Man book.

Meadow got a plaid nightgown, kitty ornament, dark chocolates, Babysitters Club book and headphones.

St. Nick also froze our rink just in time for his holiday. I had to clean off the rink before we could go out and skate.

Big pancakes for the holiday.

It felt like the rink needed a nice fresh layer using the homeboni.

Then I walked over to the auto shop to go get our car and its new tires. I ended up buying my tires on Wal-Mart's website and having them installed locally. Was able to add in an alignment for less than any of the big tire chains would do for just an install.

Lyndale looks pretty nice with a coat of snow.

When I got back the kiddos were busy playing Minecraft. Didn't they know we had an ice rink to go skate on?

Year 3 is a go!

We signed up Theo for hockey this year and he starts in a couple weeks.

Sometimes I doubt whether it's worth building the rink, but I think you can see that it is.

After some fun on the rink, Scott and I went to a wedding in Eden Prairie. Guess we forgot to take photos.

Back on the rink the next day.

Heck yeah!

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Northwoods NYE 2025: A Long Drive to Marty's Place North and Winter Fun on Dog Lake

Christmas time is tricky for me because it's the busiest time for me at work. I took a half day on New Years Eve and then we headed straight up north. The kids and I should've just went up days earlier, but instead I played video games in the guest room all week. Was so happy to see this place even though I was not feeling great. Of course this little guy brought another bug home with him for winter break. Ah, the good place. There's nothing better than cottage in winter. The cottage was looking beautiful in the snow. Of course you have to trudge out onto to the lake to take it all in. The addition really looks like it's always been there.  Meadow always looking cute. Oh, we arrived on New Year's Eve, which is super rare. I need to get some glitz and glammer for next year. The ladies are showing us up. This year we went to Marty's Place North . We stopped here last year for drinks and appetizers when we were skating the Glide in nearby Boulder Junction. We had...

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...
