Early Christmas in the Twin Cities

Just two practices in and Theo had grown so much on the rink. He also looks really cool with his long hair sticking out of his helmet.

We had to do a lot of bribing to get him to go to practice this morning. He had been dreading it all week.  After practice he came out smiling and said today was much better and he actually enjoyed it.

To celebrate Theo now liking rec hockey, we treated ourselves to Isles Buns & Coffee's famous cinnamon rolls.
I spy mini Bundts.

We had been wanting to try their cinnamon rolls and since we drove by we thought we'd stop. After we put our order in we were waiting and waiting for them to call my name. Somehow the cashier wrote down my name as Claire.

Oh, heck yeah!

We did not realize how big these were going to be. We could have got 2 to share.

We let the kiddos open their parent and sibling presents a bit early. After all we wouldn't be home for quite a while once we went to Wisconsin for Christmas and New Year's Eve.

We used to have them open their gifts after we got back from New Years, but now we do a family Christmas day before we leave for the holidays.

Meadow got Theo a Dog Man book.

Theo got Meadow earrings that look like Nintendo Switch controllers.

A pretty good haul for Theo bub. Lots of building toys and Dog Man graphic novels.

Meadow scored on Lego sets too.

They spent all day putting together their new Lego sets.

We decided to skip making a big feast and went out to dinner at Yarusso Brothers in St Paul.

It hit the spot. Straight up Italian-American fare. No pretention.

A house in St Paul acquired a lot of the old Daytons displays from their 8th Floor Holiday shows.

Pretty cool to see someone save these beloved department store Christmas decorations and share it with the masses.

I wish it was still a thing but it's nice to see a little bit of it again.

I'm not sure what this note Theo made was about. But it's fun to see him writing these days.

My Christmas present is the same every year.  A cute and wonderful wife.

ha!

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Flushing Queens, Chinatown and Buffalo Briefly

Well, you didn't think I was done traveling for work, did you? I swear I had a shoot in rural in Bradford, PA. But you'll never know it. I got there late and had to leave straight for Buffalo to fly out to NYC for a shoot on Long Island. I did manage to briefly stop in Western New York State's Ellicottvile. I managed to get back to Buffalo with just enought time to stop for a Beef on Weck at Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen . While I quite liked Baltimore Pit Beef, I think Beef on Weck is even better. An unsung American sandwich hero. It's really about that bun. A cross between a kaiser roll and pretzel bun. Amazing stuff.

The Biggest Maple Tree in Minnesota

On the night before St Patricks Day, Meadow made a leprechaun trap.  Maybe next year Meadow.   Meadow was having a rough morning and needed a hug.  She wanted to play Zelda all day long. The rest of us wanted to go on a hike. We spend so much time getting these kids to get outside and once they are outside they don't want to come back in. Scott chose this weeks hike based off his current love of old growth forests. Wolsfeld Woods SNA just west of the cities in Medina. It's home to the tallest sugar maple in the state.
