Work Trip: Pullman, Washington

My next shoot for CampusReel took me back to Washington state for a shoot at, well, Washington State University down in Pullman. After a cross-continental day of flying from Boston to Spokane (via Minneapolis) I drove down to the southeast corner of the Evergreen State.

The area between Spokane and Pullman was mostly rolling hills. It didn't look too different than parts of North Dakota. Eventually I made it to Colfax where I stopped and took some pictures.

Apparently Colfax is the county seat. The courthouse featured some great deco architecture.

20 minutes later and I was at the Hotel McCoy in Pullman. There seem to be a lot of rad updated motels in Washington.

Downtown Pullman was pretty sleepy. I guess I was expecting a bit more from the college town. Over 50% of the 32,000 residents in town go or work at WSU.

There seemed to have been a barcade in town, but it had closed years back. All that was left was this cool Mario tile mural.

After eating at Nayarit Mexican Restaurant and walking around downtown, I got a treat at Sugar Babe Bakery.

Then I walked up into the residential neighborhoods. The downtown is in a valley, but all the residences and university are up steep hills.

After taking a break at the motel, I walked around again. The town was a bit more pleasant without rush hour traffic.

Until next time sleepy, Pullman. I had to get back to Spokane after my shoot to meet up with Brooke and the kids for a road trip across Washington.

Honeymoon: Locks, Falls and a Damn Ankle

Once we decided to exit stage Mackinac, we had to decide what to do asap.

Over the River & Through the Woods to Grandmothers House We Clean

My mom had wanted us to come down to my grandparents home to clean for months. Unfortunately a busy summer had kept us away. We finally made it a week after our honeymoon ended. We slept at my parents home in Cudahy before heading down to Racine. We got home from our trip on Tuesday and left for Milwaukee on Thursday. It was almost like an extended vacation. Before leaving the cities we stopped and had dinner at Foxy Falafel. It was pretty good and I like that she uses sprouted chickpeas.  I never knew my grandparents on Poppyseed Tuska's side so Grandma and Grandpa Wojcik were a special part of my life. They both passed away last year after living nearly 90 wonderful years.  Their home was always a wonderfully warm and inviting place. The perfect place to spend your Christmas Eve in front of a fire place. Since it's going to be sold, Brooke and I took on the massive task of organizing and cleaning the home. When Scott told me h...

Farmer's Markets, Home Tours and Dirt

We slept in again today. It's becoming a bad habit of mine lately. I was really hungry when I woke up so I had an apple and a few strawberries. Grandpa Lungwitz got a big writeup in the Redgranite paper and he sent us the story in the mail. After deciding we had to make it to the farmer's market and breakfast could wait, we checked out the demolished Broadway Liquor Outlet along the way. It got heavily damaged by the tornado and sat rotting away for nearly a year.  Here's what it looked like right after the storm. It really was one of my favorite buildings on the northside. It made Penn and Broadway.  The owner is going to be erecting a large multi-use building across the street. So, we'll get back the best liquor store on the Northside. I haven't heard anything about what will go in that hole. Brooke and I meandered through Near North to the farmers market. I was pretty excited that this weekend was the opening.  There wasn't much...
