Work Trip to Spokane and Pentz Homes Picnic

I had to fly out to Spokane, Washington to shoot Gonzaga University. It would've been fun to bring the whole family, but alas school is not out for summer. After the first night I went to Iron Goat Brewing for dinner, a couple of beers and the NFL Draft.

Then I went for a walk around Downtown Spokane.

Thought their downtown was pretty great for a city of 200,000.

After the second day of shooting at Gonzaga, I ended up at Chowderhead. I never knew I needed a Philly with a side of clam chowder. Both were perfect.

I did a little walking around the insane Spokane County Courthouse.

Like a fairy tale castle surrounded by parking lots.

Thanks to Scott going on this trip I learned this town is pronounced Spo-can not Spo-cane.

I drove out to the Rocks of Sharon for a hike. All I could think the whole time is how much Brooke would love this place.

It's true, I would've.

This was quite the hike for a Midwesterner.

There they are, the Rock of Sharon.

I forgot, this was my first visit to Washington outside of SeaTac airport.

Bored and a little hungry, I drove back into the city to the Donut Parade. Decent donut, better ambiance.

I grabbed breakfast and walked around downtown a bit in the morning.

The Steam Plant Hotel ruled. And you get free breakfast at their restaurant Rosie's. Way better than a continental breakfast.

I thought since I was already near Idaho, I'd knock another state off my checklist. I couldn't make it to Coeur D'Alene and the neighboring national forest, so I hiked just across the border at the Upper Fall Loop in Post Falls, Idaho.

Nice hike and hope to explore Idaho more in the future, but I had to drive back to the airport and get home.

Back at home Theo had a bagel and pancakes for breakfast? Spoiled!

Twice a year I go through the kids and my closets. This morning I went through Meadow's clothes. She's changed her style in the last few months so we got rid of a lot.

Scott decided to match his phone today.

Brooke really needs to learn how to take more than one photo.

We stopped by my buddy Nate's picnic for all his real estate clients.

It was a lot cooler near the river. We had to grab our blanket out of the car while we ate.

We tried chatting with folks, but the kids just wanted us to play with them at the playground. Typical Meadow and Theo.

Afterwards we made a quick stop at Target where I saw this cute bocce set. Is this really what bocce ball sets cost?

Have you seen how much curling stones cost? That seems way too cheap.

Theo really wanted this RV lego set. Guess we've really influenced him.

Chicago Chrismukkah + Michigander Xmas

Before heading out on our trip we let the kids open their Christmas gifts from us. A knitted sweater for Theo and a kitty dress for Meadow (I fixed the straps for her) both made by me. I wanna a sweater. Scott got them new compact sleeping bags. We all got smaller sleeping bags this year and we'll now have a lot more room in our car. This year we had talked about hosting my family at the cottage. Then meeting up in Milwaukee, then meeting in Chicago. But in the end we made stops in Chicago and Lowell this Christmas. We left on a Sunday which was nice to have a few days to prepare. On the way down to Chicago we stopped at our favorite roadside restaurant, Foster Cheese Haus. We had plans to break up our drives so we didn't have to rush like we normally do. We had made it just before the cheese haus was set to close for the winter. Just not enough folks stop here in winter and snowmobile season is becoming shorter and shorter this far so...

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Biking to Doors Open Minneapolis 2025

This weekend was Doors Open. We had missed the last couple years so I had a big list of places to see. I thought we'd drive to get to more places quickly, but Scott insisted we bike as it was easier to park.  Theo and I were ready to take some pics. We started out at the Rand Tower. My personal favorite Minneapolis skyscraper. Next we got to see inside a manhole. They had robots patrolling the sewer and a live video feed on a TV.  Then we walked over to the Dayton's Project. I really wish their food hall idea would have followed through, it's sad to see it so empty.  It's still mostly empty and I'm not sure if they know what to do with the space. We got to go in the nooks and crannies of the old JB Hudsons space, like this the old window display. There was lounge or bar that was opening soon to the public.
