We got up late and decided to go to Manhattan.





We do a lot of walking around



Dan is practicing for New Years.



Dan took us out for lunch with his gift card for some Chicago style pizza. We ate like kings.



We walked through Central Park.



There were some great photo opps.



I'm not sure what this place was for but it was pretty.



There's an ice skating rink in the middle that we're going to check out before we leave.



Some people here dress pretty crazy.



We were going to go to the art museum but the line was a mile long so we walked around instead.



Christmas time is pretty.



Saks 5th Avenue is pretty outside

I got new shoes at a vintage store yesterday



The biggest Catholic church in the US



Grand Central Station had a light show while we were there



We saw some interesting magazines at the news stand.



Mmmm street vendor pretzels



There was another ice skating rink in Bryant park



We found Time square. It wasn't hard to miss.



We stopped in the Marriot for a drink.



I had to get a cosmo of course. I find that I don't get carded here often. Nice.



The view was great.

Day 1  Scott had gotten a lucky gig to check out some off the beaten path campsites for Hipcamp. Our trip was going to bring us to the Appalachians. We packed our car full and headed east "early" Friday morning. Early for us is never that early, but at least we got out on the road at a decent hour. While driving through Madison we stopped at Cabela's to pick up a few more supplies that we would need. Our original plan was to make it to Indiana Sand Dunes tonight. Scott mentioned that if we drive through Milwaukee we could skip the Chicago tolls. I agreed and then he asked if we could stop in Cudahy to say hi to the folks. I said we might as well stay the night.  When we got there we went to Tsing Tao with my dad, my childhood favorite restaurant. Birthday Ice Cream Pie, Pierogi Fish Fry and Other Stuff

For Brooke's actual birthday we got an ice cream pie from Milkjam. Not quite as good as Sebastian Joe's cakes, but still good. Oh, happy birthday, Killer Bee. You know we love a good lenten fish fry. The Ukranian American Community Center in Northeast Minneapolis does one with Pierogis as the side. Or are they main dish? Either way, pretty, pretty good. I had heard about this a couple years ago and had been wanting to try it.  The kids chickened out and got spaghetti.  They even had a band playing Ukranian folk music. We decided to go on an after dinner walk through Boom Island Park and onto Nicollet Island. We promised the kids a playground and they were sorely disappointed.  What a dream it would be to live on Nicollet Island. But also why did they knock down all the cool old commercial buildings lining Hennepin ? Got some new pants. Theo had to try them out first. Theo's First Kids Birthday Party

Last month I asked Theo what he wanted to do for his birthday. He said he wanted to have a birthday party. We let him invite 5 friends from school for a gathering at our house. Well, I told him he could invite more, but he said those 5 were his friends. I guess you can't argue with that. Meadow helped out with most of the planning and decorating. Can't say I did much other than order the pizza and pickup his cake. The anticipation was palpable. And then Theo's first friend arrived. Theo requested Dominos and fruit and veggies. I ordered way too much pizza. Partially because we forgot to mention lunch on the invites.
