Brooke's Brithday Cabin Weekend: Soudan Undergournd-Lake Vermillion State Park Edition

It was Brooke's birthday cabin weekend. We were going to the brand new camper cabins at Soudan Mine-Lake Vermillion State Park, but decided to break up our drive in Duluth. Remnants of Boubville still stand in Blake's backyard. Scott and I wanted to get breakfast at Duluth Grill but the kids won with their request for Superior Waffles . The place is pretty good to be honest. Blake has made progress since we were here last. He said he was trying to get it all done before Easter and was then disappointed to learn we wouldn't be coming for Easter this year. Sorry Blake and Daniel. If we had more room in our Roadsufer campervan rental , we'd bring you along next month. This years birthday cabin brought us to Lake Vermilion State Park . My original plan was to go to Winnipeg, but knowing this mild winter, we didn't think that would work. We even talked about going to Arkansas. With a spring break trip coming up we decided to stay close by. The Minnesota State Park camp...

Iron Range Camping for Work and Fun

Scott had more shoots this weekend. This time it took us way up north. With Meadow back in school we left Friday afternoon.  Luckily Meadow's teacher canceled their afternoon meeting and we were able to leave earlier than we planned. To break up the long drive we camped for the night at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park . We booked the last site, I can't believe people are still camping. When we were setting up our tent Meadow said, "Why are other people so close to us?" We don't go to normal campgrounds very often I guess.  We set up early and went on a hike before dinner. We should have brought our canoe along, but a hike would do.

A Mille Lacs-Crow Wing History and Camping Weekend

Back when we were in Texas, Anna asked if we wanted to go to Paul Bunyan Land in August. We picked a weekend that worked for both of us and decided to stay a night at Crow Wing State Park. We were supposed to meet her and her friend Lauren at Paul Bunyan Land on Saturday morning. We figured it would be easier if we were already up that way.  So we drove up on Friday. We left early in the afternoon and headed towards Mille Lacs. On the way just so happened to be a historic site that we could visit. The Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post , which also just happened to be across from a casino buffet. After lunch we headed over. Meadow and I read about foods found in the woods that can be used for food and medicine.

Camping Round 5: This Time With Friends at Mille Lacs and A Detour to Stillwater

We had planned on going camping again, but hadn't decided where to go when some Northside friends invited us to join them at Father Hennepin State Park. That's the Father Hennepin Park on the southern tip of Lake Mille Lacs and not the park along the river in Minneapolis.

Mille Lacs for the Day

Yesterday I made yogurt and today it was ready to go in the fridge.
