Well, you didn't think I was done traveling for work, did you? I swear I had a shoot in rural in Bradford, PA. But you'll never know it. I got there late and had to leave straight for Buffalo to fly out to NYC for a shoot on Long Island.
I managed to get back to Buffalo with just enought time to stop for a Beef on Weck at Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen.
While I quite liked Baltimore Pit Beef, I think Beef on Weck is even better. An unsung American sandwich hero. It's really about that bun. A cross between a kaiser roll and pretzel bun. Amazing stuff.
Anyways I flew out to JFK and quickly drove east toward Islandia, New York. I once again only had time to stay at my hotel, finish my shoot in Nissequogue and then drive back to NYC.
Well, I could've stayed out on the north shore of Long Island, but I couldn't turn down a chance to explore a bit back in NYC. Queens to be exact.
I started my walk in Fresh Meadows and made my way through Queens neighborhoods like Utopia, Kissena and East Flushing.
Flushing Chinatown. My brother recommended the neighborhood since I was staying in Queens. He lived to the south in Brooklyn for a decade or so.
I'm glad I took his recommendation to heart. I felt like I had suddenly been transported to East Asia.
I ended up getting lost in the New World Mall. There were dozens of Chinese, Korean and Japanese joints tucked into the giant basement food court. Even more in the maze of mall's upper reaches.
I got some beef noodle soup and dumplings from the aptly named Chineses Korean Dumplings and Noodles. One of the best meals I've ever had.
Until next time New York.
