Thanksgiving Back Home in Minneapolis

Another weekend, another smiley face breakfast.

Brooke didn't want to travel to her family's Thanksgiving for just the weekend. We'd be there in a couple of weeks for a wedding and then back for Christmas.

Yeah, I wasn't in the mood to be driving back and forth every 2 weeks. I hate driving in the winter as it is. On Thanksgiving morning, Theo and I went grocery shopping for our dinner.

Thanksgiving is also not really my thing. There's a reason you only eat this meal once a year. Since it was just us, we could make whatever we wanted. That meant for dessert we could have pavlova.

And challah instead of rolls.

The kiddos played the Game of Life while we cooked. Arguably the best board game ever.

Theo was excited for not-so-traditional Thanksgiving.

We decided on ham. (I got one from work). Meadow wanted baked potatoes. So I made sweet potatoes as well. And brussels sprouts of course. Like any good millennial would.

Kitty wanted in on our dinner too.

Theo decorated the pavlova.

I doubted the pavlova, but it was really, really good.

I think I may have under whipped the whipped cream because once we added the fruit it spread like lava.

Pavlova for breakfast, why not?

The house always feels so cozy during the holidays.

Winter has arrived.

Just in time to freeze the backyard rink.

Sometimes these two aren't fighting. Drawing together in Meadow's dark room just makes you so thankful for the little family you have.

And it was finally time to fill up the rink.

With two hoses it takes us about 17-18 hours to fill up.

Thankfully our renter downstairs is a hockey player, so she isn't mad when the water becomes a trickle for a day. Can't wait to be skating with the kiddos.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Flushing Queens, Chinatown and Buffalo Briefly

Well, you didn't think I was done traveling for work, did you? I swear I had a shoot in rural in Bradford, PA. But you'll never know it. I got there late and had to leave straight for Buffalo to fly out to NYC for a shoot on Long Island. I did manage to briefly stop in Western New York State's Ellicottvile. I managed to get back to Buffalo with just enought time to stop for a Beef on Weck at Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen . While I quite liked Baltimore Pit Beef, I think Beef on Weck is even better. An unsung American sandwich hero. It's really about that bun. A cross between a kaiser roll and pretzel bun. Amazing stuff.

The Biggest Maple Tree in Minnesota

On the night before St Patricks Day, Meadow made a leprechaun trap.  Maybe next year Meadow.   Meadow was having a rough morning and needed a hug.  She wanted to play Zelda all day long. The rest of us wanted to go on a hike. We spend so much time getting these kids to get outside and once they are outside they don't want to come back in. Scott chose this weeks hike based off his current love of old growth forests. Wolsfeld Woods SNA just west of the cities in Medina. It's home to the tallest sugar maple in the state.
