Our First Visit to the Steele County Fair plus a Twins Game with Friends

This past year Theo's best friend moved to Owatonna. When we came down last May for his birthday party I saw a sign for the Steele County Fair and knew we had to come back for it. First stop is the lemonade stand.

Then we hit up the daredevil show.

After going to the RV show last February, Theo gets excited to tour campers.

They're fun to look at it or rent, but sorry bud, we're sticking to tents for the most part.

You know I love a fair that is connected to the historic village.

I don't know if this is a common thing, but a few of the county fairs around here have little history centers right on their fairgrounds.

We were surprised the church was air conditioned. We may have stayed in here awhile.

The highlight was the old home. I also recently took the kids to the Fillebrown House in White Bear Lake.

Theo and I looked ahead while Brooke and Meadow took their time looking through the house.

It was nice to cool down for a bit longer.

The 4-H buildings are always one of my favorite stops

The cars from every decade exhibit was pretty cool too.

They were all Dodges and Plymouths. They must've been all been owned by one gearhead.

Of course Theo had to get cotton candy.

Is bingo also a Minnesota county fair thing? I'm not sure I remember a bingo tent at any fairs over in Wisconsin.

No winnings again this time.

I thought we'd go on rides, but Theo only wanted to go on the rollercoaster. So I tagged along.

Only $20 to ride too.

County fair > state fair.

For some reason we headed home before dark. But I think we had a great time as always. I wonder which county fair we'll go to next?

The next day we got to go to a Twins game.

Our aforementioned friends who had moved down to Owatonna invited us since they had a few extra tickets. The seats were stellar.

Being that it was kids day, they let the kids run the bases after the game.

We then treated Theo to Bebezito for ice cream.

Mmmmmm...

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

2 Weddings (the Wedding) and a Scenic Drive Home

I woke up early and did finishing touches on the cake.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...
