Our First Visit to the Steele County Fair plus a Twins Game with Friends

This past year Theo's best friend moved to Owatonna. When we came down last May for his birthday party I saw a sign for the Steele County Fair and knew we had to come back for it. First stop is the lemonade stand.

Then we hit up the daredevil show.

After going to the RV show last February, Theo gets excited to tour campers.

They're fun to look at it or rent, but sorry bud, we're sticking to tents for the most part.

You know I love a fair that is connected to the historic village.

I don't know if this is a common thing, but a few of the county fairs around here have little history centers right on their fairgrounds.

We were surprised the church was air conditioned. We may have stayed in here awhile.

The highlight was the old home. I also recently took the kids to the Fillebrown House in White Bear Lake.

Theo and I looked ahead while Brooke and Meadow took their time looking through the house.

It was nice to cool down for a bit longer.

The 4-H buildings are always one of my favorite stops

The cars from every decade exhibit was pretty cool too.

They were all Dodges and Plymouths. They must've been all been owned by one gearhead.

Of course Theo had to get cotton candy.

Is bingo also a Minnesota county fair thing? I'm not sure I remember a bingo tent at any fairs over in Wisconsin.

No winnings again this time.

I thought we'd go on rides, but Theo only wanted to go on the rollercoaster. So I tagged along.

Only $20 to ride too.

County fair > state fair.

For some reason we headed home before dark. But I think we had a great time as always. I wonder which county fair we'll go to next?

The next day we got to go to a Twins game.

Our aforementioned friends who had moved down to Owatonna invited us since they had a few extra tickets. The seats were stellar.

Being that it was kids day, they let the kids run the bases after the game.

We then treated Theo to Bebezito for ice cream.

Mmmmmm...

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Beaver Creek State Park Hiking Club (with a Layover at Frontenac State Park)

After we dropped Meadow off at school on Friday morning I made some last second plans to camp in southern Minnesota this weekend. Once we picked up Meadow we headed towards Red Wing. Red Wing Brewing has some really great pizza. The crust is something special. So we stopped there for dinner. Getting back to pre-COVID life is a bit strange, but we're getting used to it.

Ice Skating Off the Gunflint Trail

Last year we made a trip up to the Gunflint Trail and Voyageur Canoe Outfitters for Brooke's birthday. Due to a faulty pump the VCO folks provided us with a complimentary stay in 2026. So with the kids off in mid-January we took them up on that. We stopped for the night at Blake's house on our way to the Gunflint. He had recently acquired my Grandma's old Apple computer.  The kids were blown away by the old style computers. Then they decided to write a story and were sad that it couldn't be saved.  Blake's winter project this year is working on his library.  When we arrived, Daniel was working on wallpapering the vestibule.  I didn't know you could wallpaper with fabric.  I think this was the wallpaper . We decided to get breakfast at Uncle Loui's in Downtown Duluth. This place is still great. Meadow approves.  Theo needed to use the bathroom just as we were driving by Gooseberry Falls. Was a good excuse to also check out the falls.  Getting down to t...
