You Can Still Garden in the Condo Life

Good morning, Theo!

Good morning Minneapolis.

When we moved in there was a bunch of plants in our stairway that were dead. We are assuming the previous owners of our unit left them there. I had always meant to replace them and finally got around to it. We did a mix of herbs, cactus, succulents and flowers.

We'll see if starting from seed works in there.

The last time I was at my parents my mom gave me her old set of weights. I've since started doing some arm workouts. Scott picks on me for doing this, but I feel like I've been very inactive since getting pregnant.

She's probably right. I'd love to go on more bike rides, but it's hard with the newborn.

It seems that Meadow always wants to play something. We pretend that all of her Barbies are superheroes.

The north side of our building has garden beds.

They were built by old residents without the new garden unit owners knowledge. Since then it's only been used by their unit.

The basement unit recently sold and since we are the only full time owners in the building it is now ours. Happy Mother's Day to me.

Since this is the only patch we have to take care of I don't mind yard work this year.

I did clean up some other areas that needed tending while Brooke planted the garden.

We discovered a concrete slab next to the garage under a lot of dirt and weeds. It would be neat to turn this space into a sitting area since our condo lacks a yard.

We were all tired after being outside all morning.

Isn't it strange how baby's necks can turn?

I made an old recipe of ours, black bean and cream cheese enchiladas.

This must be because no one ever takes pictures of me.

Meadow and Theo did some tummy time. I have to admit I haven't been doing it as much with Theo. He just screams whenever I put him on his stomach.

That's probably why.

Okay okay I will pick you up.

Scott suggested going out for brunch buffet for Mother's Day. I said I would rather spend the money on some new clothes. So for the rest of the day I made Meadow a Wonder Woman crown.

She loved it so much.

Her new crown inspired us to play some more superheroes.

Then we ended our day watching Dumbo. Every week we check out a Disney movie from the library. We hope to watch all of them.

Meadow was way more excited about this than this picture would make you think.

Six Months, More Like Six Years

Approaching the 11th hour of this Sunday we finally rolled out of bed. Brooke and I made a night out of our six month since being married. In a way we could be celebrating six plus years together. I met the little lady above in February 2006. Now we garden together. We had a lovely night indeed: dinner at Red Stag and drinks at Aster Cafe.  I went outside to show Brooke where our new boulevard tree was going to be planted. We found a love letter in our bushes. Brooke couldn't read it, so we let it dry on one of the radiators.  The first page was mostly apologizing for not writing and then the second page turned sour with lots of swear words.  We drove downtown to eat brunch. We parked across from this rare small pre-1950s building that has somehow survived in downtown Minneapolis's ongoing urban renewal. We decided to eat at La Belle Crepe since I picked up this for our post-wedding breakfast back on that October day. This creperie is...

Honeymoon: Locks, Falls and a Damn Ankle

Once we decided to exit stage Mackinac, we had to decide what to do asap.

Sisters, a Brother and Walking Chicago

Summer always seems to mean one thing: weddings. Whether I'm shooting or attending, we're bound to end up at a few every year.  This time around we were heading down to Chicago from my big sister Katrina's nuptials. I feel like all our vacations are centered around a wedding or something wedding related. I wish we could go on a vacation without having to worry about being somewhere.   It also means a few repetitive trips down I-94. There aren't nearly enough unique stops off the interstate. One outlier is Foster Cheese Haus , the only organic Wisconsin cheese shop I know of. Run by the folks behind Castle Rock Organic Farms , we always try to stop by. Unfortunately for us they were closed on Wednesdays, but at least we got to spy on their darling garden out front.    Brooke and I arrived in Necedah. We decided to stop at Brooke's sister Brittany's home along the way to cut the ride in half and get her dressed hemmed.   ...
