Are You Ready For The Summer?

 Scott had to work again on this fine Sunday.

 I made myself strawberry and honey steel-cut oats with marbled rye toast. 

 After doing a couple loads of laundry I biked to the farmers market to get a few veggies and plants for our front planter. 

There was so much more available this week. I wanted to get more, but were going out of town on Wednesday. 

 I always wait to buy plants after Memorial day because usually they're on sale. 

 This week I'm making multi-grain bread. I had made the soaker last night. It gave a few options for grains to use. I thought it would be more interesting to use one of everything. Buckwheat, millet, cornmeal, quinoa, oats and wheat bran. 

 I ordered another book with my Homemade Pantry book. It finally arrived this week. Scott made the joke that we're becoming hardcore hippies. 

 The first half of this book has recipes similar to Homemade Pantry. Then the rest is ways to use natural ingredients for making things like toothpaste, shampoo, cleaning products or chest rub. It also gives recipes for different teas to drink if you have a headache. I know I'd rather drink tea than take ibuprofen or asprin. Even though we only use "all natural" products there are still some things in them that I don't know. I like that most of the recipes in this book have 5 common ingredients for most things. 

 For lunch I had a leftover cashew chicken stir-fry, an aprium and rhubarb cake. 


Then I cleaned the kitchen. 

 We were planning on having veggie burgers for dinner so I shaped the dough into buns instead of as a loaf.

 Next I cleaned my closet which mostly consisted of sorting through jewelry.

When I got home I found Brooke in the front yard planting what she bought at the farmer's market.


She must've been tired.




We needed more flowers for my flower garden and to fill the voids from a number a seedlings that haven't survived the first couple weeks. The first nursery, Weber's Greenhouse, is the oldest business in neighboring Brooklyn Center.


Afterwards we decided to check out the much larger Malmborg's across the way and picked up some more herbs that were on sale.

Once we got back we planted our beautiful new flowers. These hen and chicks are really cool. When we turn the hill into a rock garden I'm going to plant more of these.

 I planted our pots. 

 Garden photo Week 2. I can't wait for another sunflower fence later this summer.


We filled in the garden vacancies with a load of broccoli, collards,  cabbage and this ichiban eggplant.


I went inside and made breadcrumbs from some loaves of gluten-free bread I had on hand. I hate the taste so instead of throwing them out I turn them into crumbs.

I am always surprised at how much the dough grows in this warmer weather.


We ate these scrumptious homemade veggie burgers on the homemade multi-grain rolls for dinner. What's nice about these burgers is they actually had vegetables. Most recipes are just grains and beans.

 After I did dishes we watched the first couple episodes of Downton Abbey.

Or as Scott calls it Downton "Crabbey". I thought that meant he didn't like it, apparently I was wrong.

I liked the before and after picture of the kitchen…You should’ve done the same with the closet picture.

Hens and Chicks are one of my favorites!! I have them in the front of our house.

Six Months, More Like Six Years

Approaching the 11th hour of this Sunday we finally rolled out of bed. Brooke and I made a night out of our six month since being married. In a way we could be celebrating six plus years together. I met the little lady above in February 2006. Now we garden together. This Puzzle Just Never Ends (Plus More Bread!)

I got off Sunday for the second week in a row. While we both got up at about the same time, Brooke took forever to get dressed. I think she has too many outfits to choose from. Once up I fry some salami to go in this week's bread. We hadn't made ebelskivers in long time. We filled them chocolate chips and jam that we got from our friends Ben and Jordan. It feels like just yesterday that they stopped by post-Christmas with their cat Galaxy. Hopefully we can visit them in Seattle in the next year or so. No those aren't chocolate ebelskievers they weren't turning well and started burning. Since we were having problems with the 'skivers we decided to finish up with some waffles.   Scott plans out meals for our grocery list while I clean up the kitchen. Sisters, a Brother and Walking Chicago

  Summer always seems to mean one thing: weddings. Whether I'm shooting or attending, we're bound to end up at a few every year.  This time around we were heading down to Chicago from my big sister Katrina's nuptials. I feel like all our vacations are centered around a wedding or something wedding related. I wish we could go on a vacation without having to worry about being somewhere.   It also means a few repetitive trips down I-94. There aren't nearly enough unique stops off the interstate. One outlier is Foster Cheese Haus , the only organic Wisconsin cheese shop I know of. Run by the folks behind Castle Rock Organic Farms , we always try to stop by. Unfortunately for us they were closed on Wednesdays, but at least we got to spy on their darling garden out front.    Brooke and I arrived in Necedah. We decided to stop at Brooke's sister Brittany's home along the way to cut the ride in half and get her dressed hemmed.   ...
