A Lovely Day

The time change didn't really affect me and I got up at my normal time. To Scott it meant sleeping in even later. While he was still asleep I worked on our meal planning and grocery list. Once I finally got up we were both ready to go grocery shopping. Brooke even had all the bags packed.   We tried to figure out somewhere to eat brunch. We had decided Bad Waitress when we remembered that the Lowry Cafe has breakfast and we hadn't been there in a long time. Brooke ordered the corned beef hash special. I got the mighty big Jordan breakfast. I was full for the rest of the day.  We mostly shop at the Seward Co-op even if it's halfway across town. Once the Lowry Bridge reopens we'll likely go to the Eastside Co-op more often. Via bike.  As always ,Brooke writes our dinner list on the chalkboard. According to Sprout Robot this week it's time to start tomato seeds. I like that their instructions come with little drawings. ...

Happy Birthday Brooke

Brooke wanted a Kahlua Bundt cheesecake for her birthday this year.  A few years back when we made this with my sister it was way too much food. So, Brooke and I decided to cut the recipe in half. I spent my day off baking this Bundt masterpiece. While the cake was baking I started my first ever cased sausage. We got a sausage stuffer with our wedding bounty and our wonderful Realtor got us a sausage making cookbook for our nuptials.  For my first sausage I made Spanish-style fresh chorizo. It's basically Italian sausage (i.e. fennel, red pepper flakes and garlic) with wine, booze and vinegar; nothing like the Mexican equivalent.  I also wrapped Brooke's present during the day. Once she got home she had to open her present. I always write little notes on her presents. This time I just mentioned that I'm her husband. I had no idea what it was. I knew ...

How Can We Make Life Less Boring?

This weeks bread is Ciabatta. Scott had made this a few summers ago so we thought we'd try a variation and add caramelized onions and herbs. Nothing like cutting onions in the morning.  I'm really hoping Peter Reinhardt will find our blog and see that I'm making everything in his book and want to do a movie with me. It'll be called Brooke and Peter. I'm also gunning for a movie once Mark Bittman passes away. OK, I'm not. That' just weird. We did make oatmeal raisin pancakes from Bittman's Food Matters cookbook. Oatmeal pancakes? Yes please! These turned out much better than the oatmeal raisin waffles we had a few months back. I tackled this darn puzzle again.  Peanut (our cat if you didn't already know) loves whining. Mostly he wants to go outside or in the basement. This time I gave in and he had some kind of deja vu to his alleycat youth. Scott played on his phone while Peanut played outside. We both t...
