Getting the Attic (Almost) Complete for a Grandparents Visit

I got half of my birthday present early in the week on my actual birthday. An ice skate bag. When the big part of my present arrived over the weekend, I was super excited.

His old skates were starting to come apart. Time for an upgrade.

We had a neighborhood gathering for appetizers and desserts. We had to bring our new favorite cookie of course: kitchen sink cookies.

I was busy hanging our fans in the attic after finishing painting earlier this week.

I also had to sand and plane the top of this door so it could close.

Now that the walls have been perfected it was time to deep clean the attic before my parents arrive next weekend. Our next project is the floors but that will have to wait until after their visit.

Once these floors are refinished, this is going to look nice.

Sometimes Meadow and Theo get along well.

We then ended the day by staying out late for our neighborhood party. Even the kids stayed up til 1am playing in their basement. We told them a few times they could just go home and go to bed but they were having fun.

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast. Scott added granola to his oatmeal. The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it. Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof. Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Early Christmas in the Twin Cities

Just two practices in and Theo had grown so much on the rink. He also looks really cool with his long hair sticking out of his helmet. We had to do a lot of bribing to get him to go to practice this morning. He had been dreading it all week. After practice he came out smiling and said today was much better and he actually enjoyed it. To celebrate Theo now liking rec hockey, we treated ourselves to Isles Buns & Coffee's famous cinnamon rolls. I spy mini Bundts. We had been wanting to try their cinnamon rolls and since we drove by we thought we'd stop. After we put our order in we were waiting and waiting for them to call my name. Somehow the cashier wrote down my name as Claire.

Campervan Spring Break: Northern Iowa to Las Vegas, Nevada

Day 1: Minneapolis - Ozawkie, KS After last years awesome, but incredibly expensive San Francisco to Portland campervan vacation , I didn't think we'd be doing one of those again for years. But then Brooke had a work trip to Las Vegas and wanted us to tag along. That didn't quite work, but while researching a weekend campervan rental, I found a great relocation deal from northern Iowa to San Francisco during the kid's spring break. It didn't take much to persuade Brooke. Since our West Coast trip with Escape Campervan 's we found out that almost all of the campervan and RV rental companies need vehicles moved from time to time. They often offer 90% or more off normal rental rates. But we didn't realize that every spring many of the campervan rental agencies also need vehicles moved from mostly Midwest factories to all over the USA and Canada. Lucky for us the Winnebago factory in Northern Iowa cranks out a bunch of rental vans. We had three proposed routes ...
