On The Sixth Day Of Advent Meadow Got A Visit From Sinterklaas

Before we left for Duluth, Meadow got to open her stocking. She was interested in pulling things out at first, but then got distracted.

This year she got Christmas pajamas, a rolling pin, a bamboo spoon, knitted corn on the cob, knitted celery, a vegetable brush, a Hello Minnesota book and Dutch shoes ornament.

We then drove up to Duluth for some Christmas adventures.

We all ate the speculaas we made for St. Nick.

I helped out Blake stringing popcorn. It wasn't easy.

Boundary Waters Yurt Camping

Early in the week I found out that we had a chance to stay at a yurt in the Boundary Waters . Hipcamp's an awesome new site that helps you find pretty much any campsite. Since we didn't have any plans and we could stay in Duluth halfway we took the bait. We didn't need our tent or camp pads, so we packed a little different than normal.

Stillwater Waterfall and MN River Valley Hiking

Scott had to take some sunset photos in Stillwater.  A fall color aerial 360. I hadn't been there in awhile so we tagged along. We left as soon as Meadow was done for school and headed for the St Croix Boom Site. I had heard there was a hidden waterfall and wanted to check it out. There's not a specific trail to it. From what I read you go down the stairs and take a left following the river.  I think it's an old state trail that isn't maintained and has way too much graffiti.

The Cape Cod of the Midwest

We talked Brittany into joining us for a road trip to Door County, WI. Scott had never been there before ( or so I believe) . Considering how short of a drive it is I'm surprised my family didn't go that often, either.
