We Actually Built Something

Scott left us in the morning to go do a photoshoot. Meadow and I had breakfast together. While eating breakfast with my parents in Duluth my mom could't believe Meadow could eat a whole banana. I explained to her that she eats a banana, toast and oatmeal, granola or eggs for breakfast everyday.

The night before we went to Ikea to get this step stool. We have plans for using it for Meadow as you will see later. While Meadow finished eating I started putting it together.

As soon as Scott got back we headed to the Farmers Market for one last time this year.

Brooke wanted me to go to the market by myself after the engagement shoot, but what's the fun in that?

It's amazing how much produce you can still get on a 39 degree day in mid November.

We got a bunch of staples to get us by for a few weeks of groceries: carrots, potatoes, cauliflower to name a few.

When we got home Peanut tried to trick me into feeding him. It's his favorite pastime.

When we got back I finished putting together the stool. I only had to take it all apart and redo it 3 times. Darn Ikea instructions.

Meadow finally fits in my Michael Jordans from when I was a babe. I thought they'd look good with this outfit.

I made sure to pick out the best pieces of wood.

She's definitely watched her dad do this a few times over the years.

Back at home Meadow and I had leftover schnitzel, spaetzle and brussel sprouts for lunch before I put her down for a nap.

Meanwhile Scott and I got to work in the basement. A few weeks back I Googled "learning tower" to see if there were any affordable options and stumbled upon this site. It looked easy enough so I thought I would try it.

I thought I would give Brooke a helping hand, though she's probably awfully handy if she wanted to be.

We had to make a few modifications as some of the lengths she suggested in the instructions didn't match up. Luckily we had extra pieces of wood to recut.

I had planned to do this myself, but I'm glad Scott helped me with all the cutting and drilling.

After a few arguments and cuss words we finished. I'm pretty proud of ourselves. We aren't very handy people so finishing this makes me want to do more around the house.

I just think we have other hobbies that interest us more like cooking, kayaking and snowshoeing. I guess I also don't enjoy it like our dads do.

When Meadow woke up we showed her her new tower. She loves climbing so I knew she would be excited to see it.

It took her a bit to figure out how to climb in, but she soon was an old pro.

"Okay guys give me something to cook."

"Water within reach? Don't mind if I do."

She decided that watching me cook was more fun.

Meadow mostly ate cabbage.

Who knew she likes raw napa cabbage so much? Once in a while she'd go for a sliced onion and quickly realize that it wasn't so yummy.

Napa cabbage, bacon and onions with noodles. This is supposed to go with egg noodles since it's a Hungarian recipe, but I just used some Italian noodles instead.

After Meadow went to bed we continued our latest TV obsession, Boardwalk Empire.

I laughed so hard at this: "After a few arguments and cuss words we finished. I'm pretty proud of ourselves. We aren't very handy people so finishing this makes me want to do more around the house." You guys did a great job!
Now I have the answer to a question I posted in your latest blog...I should be working my way forward.

Oh man...I'm cracking up with your comments about Meadow on the tower...ha, ha. I want a tower now!!!! Can you build me one?

Oh...you DO watch TV.

Hike Trip with the Kids to Nerstrand State Park

Meadow and I had so much fun hiking and geocaching last weekend, we decided to do it again. I was busy photographing for a project in Lake City. Our state park pass expires at the end of the month so we decided on Nerstrand State Park. A short drive from Minneapolis I'd always wanted to go.  I love that they had this natural playground. First we wanted to see the waterfall. Little hiker. The waterfall was a lot smaller than I expected but it was open for free play. I let the kids play for awhile. Then we found another area to play. Mr Independent had to hike back himself. That's my stubborn little guy. We took a lunch break before geocaching.  Meadow didn't believe me she had smoothie on her face. Theo either. We finished our day by hiking almost the whole park to find the cache. Too bad Scott couldn't have joined us.

Chelsea and the Boys Visit Minneapolis

I told Chelsea earlier this year she was the only one who hasn't seen our house yet. She said she would visit this summer. She texted me earlier this week asking when she could come. Looking at our calendar I said, this weekend or the weekend after Labor Day.  When they arrived Theo gave her a tour of our house.  I told her we had plans to go blueberry picking and she agreed to go along too. They had never gone before.  Hoo, boy. Was I glad that I got out of blueberry picking this year. I spent the day painting back at home. I don't know why, but I do enjoy berry picking.  Afterwards we picked up food from the co-op and had lunch in Stillwater.  Then we went swimming at the St Croix River Boom Site.  We parked our towels right next to the natural spring that flows into the river.  Blake... The sunny skies soon turned to clouds and then it started raining. The kids just kept on playing.  I couldn't believe they were still out in Stillwater. Then we went over to Teddy Bear

Mama Theo Day and the Boring House

We brought home the tag along from the cottage to use at home as Theo is finally big enough to use it. I wasn't sure if it would fit with my rack but it does! He was a big fan and loved it.  Maybe, just maybe he'll learn to ride a bike this summer. After hogging our bed it was time to wake up the sleepy bear for our last Mama Theo day.  .  We biked over to Lake Harriet for breakfast. I had always wanted to try Bread and Pickle for breakfast. My breakfast burrito was so filling and Theo loved his parfait.  After breakfast we played at the playground with all the other toddlers. I started to get sad knowing that I no longer have any young children in my life. Before I know it Theo will be off at school. We had plans to spend the day at the beach but we were basically the only ones there and there were algae warnings posted.  We tried Bde Maka Ska but the water there was even worse. To the wading pool it is.  Still hates getting his face wet.  Afterwards we went home for lunch, r
