One Week Old

I have surprisingly taken to motherhood well. Everyone kept telling me how the first 2 weeks have been the hardest. In my mind I kept telling myself how much work it would be and how little of sleep I would get. In reality I've been sleeping well and she's been eating fine and gaining back her birth weight . Now I'm more worried it's going to all change and she's going to get fussier.

Emma offered to take her newborn photos. I figured Scott wouldn't be into the idea himself so I said sure.

Actually I would have been, but Emma shoots babies how mom's want them photographed.

We headed over to their house in the morning.

Emma suggested we use her backyard as a backdrop for better lighting. Their yard is shadier than ours so I agreed.

As I guess that's evident from this shot.

We tried putting her on a fur rug first but she kept trying to eat it.

I watched for a good ten minutes and then started to get bored.

I fed her for a bit and then she was out and let us move her in any position.

I kept her out of the sun.

And I took pictures of Emma taking pictures.

Scott didn't like the idea of her being in a suitcase, but c'mon how adorable is this? Nice shot Emma.

Cheesy...but I'll admit it's pretty darling.

I went inside for a bit and hung out with Olive and Tyler.

Since Scott is usually behind the camera I took this opportunity to get some photos of the three of us.

This was our Lion King moment.

Olive loves looking at baby Meadow.

Scott figured out meals based on the foods we have received from our CSA. Money is super tight now that I'm not working so we are trying to stretch things as best we can.

Plus if you're getting a box of veggies every week, you better use them.

I'm still too sore to do much walking and I needed to take my afternoon nap. Scott was going to have to run errands on his own. Thanks super dad.

The other day we were both craving cookies. We always have homemade ice cream in the house now so I made an ice cream sandwich after lunch.

The reason we have homemade ice cream is because Brooke qualified for WIC. They give you like 5 gallons of milk a month. I turn that milk into yogurt, ice cream and cheese.

I needed a case for my new phone (an HTC One, which is metal, black and apparently delicate) and a new hard drive. I had a gift card from Best Buy so I stopped by the closest store in Roseville.

The Roseville BBY doesn't feel anything like the Brooklyn Center store I worked at for two years. While there I ran into one of my old coworkers Maurice and we chatted for a bit.

Then I headed back to Minneapolis and got our groceries from Seward Coop.

Once back I made a variation on Singapore Noodles. It's great that Brooke no longer has heartburn.

I'm keeping up on dishes despite hating to do them.

I can't wait until I feel better and can get out of the house more. Being in the house all day, especially with it being summer, is getting boring.

Before bed we both had some Heath Bar ice cream. I love my Ben and Jerry's cookbook.

I still love watching her sleep.

I am very interested in your ice cream making and had a few questions:

-What type/brand ice cream maker do you use?
-Recommend any recipe books?
-If you would start again, what would you do differently?

Great blog,

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast.   Scott added granola to his oatmeal.  The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it.   Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof.  Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Redwoods, Humboldt County and San Francisco

We ended up going on some rad adventures this summer, but most of my 360 photography gigs took me to hot and humid climates. The second school starts, I schedule a gig up in Humboldt County. We debated about having them tag along, but I ended up traveling solo. Breakfast at La Joya Cafe was so, so good. Meadow didn't want to miss school, but Theo was all for it.  I flew into SFO and stayed just outside of the city. I had all day to get up to Eureka, so I took my time traversing San Francisco. The weather in San Francisco was gloomy, but that didn't stop me from exploring a new neighborhood, Visitacion Valley. The outlying San Francisco neigborhoods are whole different world from the Victorian row houses and dense core of the city. Viz Valley has such a vibe with the muted pastel pallete. And these ornate gates were everywhere. Something I'd also see in another predominantly Asian neighborhood, Flushing Queens. Almost 60% of the neighborhood is of Asian descent with anoth...

Building a Play Tent

I'm still trying to make meals with what we have. I found buckwheat and brown rice flour in the freezer. So pancakes it is. I also needed oat flour. Thank you grain mill. Not sure this grain mill is worth it since we use it four times a year. Meadow's been putting her learning tower to good use. Meadow loves to feed Peanut. She gets mad at him whenever she's trying to pour food in his dish and he tries to eat whatever she already poured. I think it would be more appropriate to say Meadow likes to dump cat food in a bowl.  Pancakes with whatever fruit we had plus bacon on the side. Whenever I eat pancakes I always feel really hungry an hour later or I feel cloudy. These pancakes actually make me feel full and energized. I'm thinking we need to continue with our Sunday brunches throughout winter. Since we no longer have to rush to the farmers markets our mornings can be a little slower. We didn't have any plans for the day so I s...
