Tettegouche Camp Birthday Weekend 2.0

Another year around the sun means another birthday cabin trip. I originally thought going to Canada would be fun. We also looked at a few Hipcamps in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I was worried a few weeks ago with the warm up that we'd have to find somewhere north to find snow. Then we had the huge snowstorm. Long story short, we found ourselves heading back to Tettegouche Camp.  I spent a whole day looking for the perfect rustic AirBNB or Hipcamp, but then Brooke brought up Tettegouche Camp. I always forget about the long hikes or wood fired stoves.  When we got to Duluth we decided to try out the new Duluth location of Grand Marais' Hungry Hippie Tacos. As usual our eyes are bigger than our stomachs.  We shared a chimichanga and nachos, but should've went with there signature fry bread tacos. Daniel was really excited for us to play games on the VR headset.  So, that's what they did the rest of the night.   Meadow and I shared a bed. I just couldn't get over how b...

Big Bog-Warroad 37th Brooke Day

This years birthday cabin trip took us up to Warroad. To break up the drive we decided to stop halfway and stay in a yurt at Cuyuna Country Recreation Area . Once we arrived it was already pretty dark out. I also didn't realize the park was so big and we entered in the opposite direction of where we needed to be. The yurts were all walk in and we ended up in the one that was the farthest from the parking lot.    Scott also didn't realize the yurt was heated by wood stove only. Let's just say he wasn't too pleased with this surprise. I was a wee bit crabby. I had totally forgotten that yurts are wood fire only heat. On a cold night it was going to take a while to heat up our cozy confines. After a mild few days in Minneapolis the temperature here was 5F.

The UP's Copper Cabin for Brooke's 36th Birthday

We went big for my birthday cabin weekend this year. Scott even said, What is this your 40th birthday? Usually we just do one or two nights somewhere but this year we did 4 nights.  I figured we wouldn't be traveling quite as much this year, so we could splurge a bit for Brooke's birthday weekend. We started our first night at a  yurt in Cable, Wisconsin  to break up the drive.   It was a pretty hike in.  They insisted you'd need snowshoes or a fat bike, but really the trail was tamped down so much we could've used just boots. I had no idea we would be staying in the middle of miles of skiing and snowshoeing trails. You can snowshoe or ski right up to the yurt.

A Tiny House-Driftless Brooke Birthday Weekend

Theo is now an expert at feeding himself. Still messy but at least he gets it mostly in his mouth.

A Tettegouche Camp Cabin and Roller Garden Brooke Birthday

Saturday It's become a yearly tradition to stay at a cabin for my birthday. Since Saturday night was the only night that worked for us this year, our locations to stay at were slim. We had casually checked places all week. We hoped to stay somewhere with snow, but all those places were far away or booked. We decided to wait to see what was available on Saturday.

A Duluth Dance Party and Savanna Portage Winter Cabin Camping for Brooke's 30th Birthday

While cleaning out closets I stumbled upon my old Gumby toys. Meadow took a liking to them right away. We decided to bring them along on Brooke's birthday trip.

Winter Camping for Brooke's 29th Birthday - Part 1

All winter we had plans to go winter camping, but because its been so so cold we had to keep putting it off. Scott was supposed to work on my birthday and last minute didn't have to. We decided this would be the perfect time to go before the snow melts.  I think we would've went earlier in the worst winter in recent memory, but a baby and sub-zero temperatures don't exactly mix.
