Christmas Time is Here in the Year 2023

Earlier this week we were invited to an open house at the new apartment building behind us. Meadow was sick and Scott didn't really want to go but I convinced him.

Hey, I can see our house.

Except there's the part Brooke is leaving out where we went on the tour and then got stuck in an elevator with like 14 people for an hour. Still nice to see the new neighbor.

The first thing Theo does when he wakes up or comes home from school is play the Switch.

Can you blame him? The new Zelda is rad.

I made a rare breakfast for the family. Well at least part of it: sweet potato latkes.

He forgot he was suggested having these so we were all waiting for him to have breakfast.

Meanwhile, I whipped up our egg sandwiches.

Theo and Meadow weren't fans of the of the sweet potatoes. Well, Meadow hates any food with nutrients that aren't artificially added.

Today was all about decorating our house for Christmas.

Meadow and Theo took charge of doing the trees.

I finished up prepping the rink after getting a few more Iron Sleek brackets. Now we just need some winter weather.

I might be weird, but I like saving the Christmas cards we get each year. It's fun to look back to see how everyone has grown.

Theo and I love playing Mancala.

The house was full of holiday cheer.

For dinner I made bechamel and butternut squash lasagna. Not sure what I was thinking. The kids were again not going to eat this. Stick to the classics stupid (me).

I still needed to get my steps in so we took a walk after dinner. We saw a kitty wearing a scarf.

It's December 2 and feels like Halloween. What a strange beginning of winter.

Work Trip: Scott Goes to Florida

As I mentioned in the last post, I had a job down in Florida at the tail end of the week. Daytona Beach to be precise. I proposed the whole family tag along, but they did not like the idea of Florida in the Summer. Anyways, after my shoot I checked Ormond Beach just to the north of Daytona. Theo is allergic to the sun and I knew he would hate going. If there wasn't four lanes of busy traffic, this town would be great.

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast. Scott added granola to his oatmeal. The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it. Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof. Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Chicago Chrismukkah + Michigander Xmas

Before heading out on our trip we let the kids open their Christmas gifts from us. A knitted sweater for Theo and a kitty dress for Meadow (I fixed the straps for her) both made by me. I wanna a sweater. Scott got them new compact sleeping bags. We all got smaller sleeping bags this year and we'll now have a lot more room in our car. This year we had talked about hosting my family at the cottage. Then meeting up in Milwaukee, then meeting in Chicago. But in the end we made stops in Chicago and Lowell this Christmas. We left on a Sunday which was nice to have a few days to prepare. On the way down to Chicago we stopped at our favorite roadside restaurant, Foster Cheese Haus. We had plans to break up our drives so we didn't have to rush like we normally do. We had made it just before the cheese haus was set to close for the winter. Just not enough folks stop here in winter and snowmobile season is becoming shorter and shorter this far so...
