RV Spring Break: Savannah to Miami

Oh, hey, we made it to Savannah. Time for a nice stroll (well, as leisurely as Brooke will allow).   I was pretty excited to be going to Savannah, even if we could only stay for a few hours. The tricky thing with having an RV is finding a place to park. The Fahm Avenue parking lot had RV spots and then we walked over to the historic district. Meadow should go to the Savannah College of Art and Design. You know, if she can get a scholarship. Savannah is just as cool in person as you think. I should have done at least one house tour. I had to embarrass Meadow with taking her photo in front of the first Girl Scout Headquarters.  Brooke got me to go into the beautiful Catholic church right in the historic district. I don't think I've ever been in a Cathedral Basilica. Usually it's one or the other. It seems like every few blocks there was a perfect square. We should build all cities like this. For lunch we went to Savannah Smokehouse . We ended up getting the sampler for 2, whi...

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"

Work Trip to Spokane and Pentz Homes Picnic

I had to fly out to Spokane, Washington to shoot Gonzaga University. It would've been fun to bring the whole family, but alas school is not out for summer. After the first night I went to Iron Goat Brewing for dinner, a couple of beers and the NFL Draft. Then I went for a walk around Downtown Spokane. Thought their downtown was pretty great for a city of 200,000.

Duluth Easter 2025

After missing last year we were back in Duluth for Easter 2025. Friday night means Friday night fish fry at The Shack . I always get something else when we come here and then look longingly at Brooke, Blake and Daniel's fish fry.    The kids and I all got burgers.   While these jokesters played, Daniel and I went to an improv show at the Zeitgeist, which I failed to take photos of. The rest of us were not feeling it. Plus somebody had to watch the kiddos.   Blake has a foot massager. I thought I would try it out. I did not like it. Machines: 0 Scottie: 1 Blake made us French Toast for breakfast.   Part of our science museum membership includes admission to the Duluth Children's Museum.  Well, it lets us into hundreds of science museums. We've been to a handful or two this year. I hadn't been here since Meadow was really little. It was nothing like the old one. Everything was just on one floor. Also my kids might be getting too old for these museums. Or this...

Work Trip to Nashville and Jackson, TN

A day after getting back from our RV road trip I flew out to Tennessee for another college campus 360 shoot. Oh, yeah, that's what I do for a living. Shoot 360s and architectural photography .   I told him he should have changed his flight to just go directly to Nashville.  Anyways after shooting at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, I took my clients recommendation and ate at Clifton Brothers BBQ on the outskirts of town. Don't believe the negative reviews (who mostly don't seem to understand sometimes staff are new or overworked), great BBQ. The client said that some people call Jackson a suburb without a city. That made me intrigued, so before heading to Nashville for my flight home, I thought I'd check out the downtown. Cool old houses. Check. Sweet art moderne Greyhound station. Check.

RV Spring Break: Minneapolis to South Carolina

Another Spring Break can only mean one thing these days: Campervan Spring Break. Well scratch the campervan this time around. Get in the RV we're driving to Florida.   You know we love our road trips. Last summer, a few months after our first Campervan Spring Break , Theo said he wanted to go on another campervan trip. I asked where and he said to Florida. Never thought we'd be a spring break in Florida family, but here we are. But first we had to get to Elkhart, Indiana to pick up our RV. Instead of driving or flying we took the Amtrak Borealis service down to Chicago for the first leg of our journey.   We were a little nervous that our train would be cancelled. Just three days earlier all the Borealis trains were found to have corrosion. They had moved routes via the bus. Thankfully they had replacement trains by the time of our departure.  As you can tell Meadow is super excited to be cooped up in an RV with us for a week or so.
