A Mother's Day Biking Adventure Around South Minneapolis

I know, I know we don't believe in fake holidays like Father's Day. But I got Brooke a plant stand a pot for mother's day.

This was my first Mother's day gift, I was so surprised Scott got me something. We generally only get each other gifts for our birthdays. Along with furniture buying recently we have also been collecting more house plants.

Perfect for this new corner of our living room.

Next I made apple pancakes for breakfast.

Nothing like griddle pancakes at the perfect temperature.

We also got this bar table to fill in the empty void in our kitchen.

Plus our counter tops are child height and we needed the extra counter space.

The kids made me a treasure map to find my gift from them.

Found it!

Oh, look, the kids are actually playing in Funlandia between staring at screens.

To be fair, they have been playing outside more too.

Meadow made me flowers and Theo made me a card.

I gave Meadow a hug to thank her, then Theo joined too.

I completed our bedroom with a waterfall dresser for my clothes. Well, we still need art for the walls.

Meadow wants to a cat themed birthday party this year. I said we could have it at the cat cafe. Today seemed like a good day to check it out.

It's nice that most of our bike rides are on bike trails or protected bike lanes.

Wait, is this Mother's Day or Meadow's Day?

The cat side of the cafe was booked for the day but you could still view the cats through large windows.

Of course we had to bike past the latest Minneapolis sensation, the tulip house.

I had just heard about it the day before and thought we could check it out since we were close by. I didn't expect it to be so busy.

Still really pretty. I want to come back in the summer to see what their yard looks like normally.

We were biking back home when I spied Marhaba in the corner of my eye. I was like lets do their buffet.

We usually get their take out and had never been to eat inside.

It was so good.

This was turning out to be a rather fun Mother's Day.

Agreed. A little something for everyone.

Back home for more playground time.

And some transferring of my new houseplants.

With the downstairs neighbors out of town I worked on scraping and glazing their windows.

Since it was Mother's Day I thought I'd give Brooke a night off of reading to Theo.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks. Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side. We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming. It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet. I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
