Minneapolis Weekday Adventures and Apple Picking on the Weekend

Meadow returned to school this week. Our big 3rd grader.

We went to the inspection at our new house and afterwards walked over to Vo's for dinner. It's going to be nice having this place closer to us.

One of our favorite places and now even closer.

We left our house early midweek since our condo had it's inspection.

While our condo was being inspected we went out for breakfast before school.

I'd never been to Our Kitchen. We always ended up getting donuts from Bogarts across the street instead.

It's always packed on the weekends. Was nice to get up early and get a table.

Why hadn't Brooke insisted on taking us here. It's so good.

Luckily we'll still live close by and stop by again. Note to self though, only order one pancake per kid. They're huge!

We dropped Meadow off at school and walked over to the "Boblikin" woods as Theo calls it.

A few days later we went apple picking. I am now all for the early apple picking. There's way less crowds and you get the good apples.

Meadow couldn't wait to get picking.

I'm loving Meadow's outfit choice today.

We started by picking honeycrisp.

I remembered these trees being much smaller last year, they really grew this year.

Eventually Theo helped out.

Though the apples were kind of slim picking.

They were pretty tiny.

Then we picked zestars.

And we were done before we knew it. Apple picking goes so quick compared to picking blueberries.

Since we were close by and we had some time before the Packers game we went over to Afton State Park.

First game of the year. Woo.

I think this park is pretty.

We just let the kids play on the beach. Their favorite thing.

I explored the shore a bit in between telling Brooke all my hair-brained schemes for the duplex we're buying.

We recently got a new blender. I had an old Oster blender that I had since I was 20. It was never very good at making smoothies. This one actually has a button for smoothies.

Thanks basement store that's no longer in a basement.

Then it was Packers game time. They played horrible, but we ate well.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks. Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side. We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming. It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet. I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
