2 Days of Snow Much Fun

We were home again this weekend. After a snowstorm over night we decided to play outside.

I got the fun task of moving the car. There was a layer of frozen snow on top of the ice and the windows were iced over.

I love this Beetle and it looks even better in the snow.

We thought we'd go sledding, but the kids just wanted to play with sand toys in the snow.

Theo loves eating snow and Meadow loves picking on her little brother.

We took a quick walk around the block, but the wind was brutal.

I guess this was as far as we were going to get.

As always we promise hot chocolate when coming inside.

It's the only way to get her inside sometimes.

The next day we decided to go ice skating.

I wanted to try the free skates instead of using my own. I had a hard time finding skates in my size.

We are trying to get Theo on single blades right away. He doesn't agree with this idea.

His wooden sled slid right across the ice.

Hockey skates are definitely not the same as figure skates. I fell pretty hard trying to do a spin.

She never noticed that they don't have the stopper in the front.

Meadow's getting pretty good at skating, but she always wants to do "tricks," which makes me nervous.

Theo decided he was done skating.

It would've been fun living in the Wirth House and watching the families skate and sled in your backyard.

Meadow said she wants to be the Park Superintendent when she grows up so she can live there.

He liked the ice a lot better on two feet.

Meadow fell and landed on her face which resulted in her glasses breaking.

My intuition was right. Perfect the skating first, little gal.

We watched the AFC Championship Game in anticipation of the big Packers game.

On Friday I finished my backpack. I'm pretty proud of this considering I've just picked up on sewing within the last year. I also have a very basic sewing machine. My machine literally only has 3 settings.

Looking good.

Let's hope it holds up on our upcoming trip to Mexico.

While they watched football I finished my next sewing project, a fanny pack. Much quicker to make than the backpack, but surprisingly harder.

In honor of the Packer game we had a snack dinner.

The snacks were epic, but the game was a big let down. Still, great season, Packers!

Yardwork, Ikea and Pumpkins

My new parents-in-law got us a dehydrator for the wedding. Knowing we were going to be cleaning up the garden and going to farmer's market, we took a gander at our millionth kitchen device during breakfast. Scott added granola to his oatmeal. The oatmeal was rather bland, just the way Brooke likes it. Scott was actually cleaning up so I had to take a quick photo of him as proof. Scott told me he was, "putting a blanket down for Peanut," while singing. During the winter months peanut needs a warm place to peer through the window. Seeing as it was nearly November, I setup his blanket for him. Seeing as the farmers market season is dwindling down, we headed to the market...once again. The close proximity to the cities central farmer's market has to be one of the best assets of living in NoMi. We were both amazed by the bounty of produce still on sale. We quickly filled up our first bag and took it back to the car....

Work Trip: Scott Goes to Florida

As I mentioned in the last post, I had a job down in Florida at the tail end of the week. Daytona Beach to be precise. I proposed the whole family tag along, but they did not like the idea of Florida in the Summer. Anyways, after my shoot I checked Ormond Beach just to the north of Daytona. Theo is allergic to the sun and I knew he would hate going. If there wasn't four lanes of busy traffic, this town would be great.

Chicago Chrismukkah + Michigander Xmas

Before heading out on our trip we let the kids open their Christmas gifts from us. A knitted sweater for Theo and a kitty dress for Meadow (I fixed the straps for her) both made by me. I wanna a sweater. Scott got them new compact sleeping bags. We all got smaller sleeping bags this year and we'll now have a lot more room in our car. This year we had talked about hosting my family at the cottage. Then meeting up in Milwaukee, then meeting in Chicago. But in the end we made stops in Chicago and Lowell this Christmas. We left on a Sunday which was nice to have a few days to prepare. On the way down to Chicago we stopped at our favorite roadside restaurant, Foster Cheese Haus. We had plans to break up our drives so we didn't have to rush like we normally do. We had made it just before the cheese haus was set to close for the winter. Just not enough folks stop here in winter and snowmobile season is becoming shorter and shorter this far so...
