Papa and Meadow Sledding / Bruch with Nate and Jess

Little buddy will eat anything.

An-y-thing...

We're sticking to eating waffles.

We've been on quite the waffle tear recently. Our new Nordic Ware heart waffle pan is awesome.

I woke up feeling very tired like I was getting sick.

Then I made her mad on top of that.

When it was time to put Theo down for a nap I slept with him in bed, with my boots still on.

While the sleepy bears napped, Meadow and I decided to go sledding. The original plan was to snowshoe as a family, but this would keep us busy.

As you can see the snow keeps on piling up. Everyone else seems to be complaining, but we think it's the best winter in years.

Meadow skied from our condo, but every once and a while we'd come upon an actual cleared sidewalk. I'd carry the little gal over to the next patch of snow.

When we arrived Meadow opted to play in the snow for a bit.

And draw us sledding.

Such a little artist.
Hey it's our neighbor and his kids.

We did in fact sled for quite a while. Even if you're an adult with no kids, I highly suggest getting some sledding in. It'll warm up your bitter winter soul.

I also see a lot parents take this kids sledding and just watch. Sledding is fun for all ages.

As you can see, Meadow got tired and made me drag her home.

I don't mind. I need the workout anyways.

When we got home we saw our neighbors and Meadow went over to play with the boys. Meanwhile I talked off Andy's ear about some random topics.

I couldn't believe I had slept the whole time they were gone.

Meadow had even drawn a comic book in the meantime.

For dinner I whipped together some thin crust pizzas. The recipe says St. Louis-style, but I'm pretty sure this kind of pizza is a thing throughout the Midwest.

Dance party!

We seem to be having a lot of these. Meadow brought home the disco light bulb that Grandpa Mike bought and Theo loves to bop his little head.

On Sunday morning we were having our friends Nate and Jess over. I made some black beans, yellow rice, cumin-flavored taters and eggs.

We need to have people over more.

The food was delicious.

Oh, yeah. We also had plantain maduros.

Theo recently discovered how fun boxes are.

We hung out with the Pentzes for a bit and tried talking them into buying the neighboring condo that was for sale. It would be awesome having them neighbors.

Theo thought that was good idea too.

After they left I spent the rest of the day working on my baby photo album. It's been falling apart for years and I finally decided to do something about it. I ordered new pages and a new album.

Some people would call that boring, but Brooke was really into this.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...

Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
