Big Bike Fun: Our First Yuba Adventure

A week removed from Brooke's surgery and with our new-to-us Yuba Mundo Lux nearly assembled we were ready for an adventure.

Also all the snow had mostly melted and the roads were finally clear.


First I had to put on the tow package running boards. When buying a bike off eBay it's bound to be a little weird. The mounting holes had been drilled out, so I needed some washers and longer screws.

So I went to Guse's and picked up the right parts or so I thought.

The screw bolts weren't long enough, so I went back and double checked this time.

Meanwhile I finished putting together my baby photo album. 

Meadow was busy playing with the neighbor kids.

Eventually we were ready to go. With the Yuba tow package you can drag along your kiddos bike. It's interesting how it doesn't tug the bike like a trailer.

Look Theo finally has teeth.


All aboard.

Too bad there's not a spot for me.

I love falling in love with the city all over again and that our kiddos will grow up in a big city.

And hopefully they will love biking as much as we do.


When we got down to the Midtown Greenway we let Meadow take her bike for a spin.
Because of the nice weather the Greenway was packed.


We stayed mostly in the walking lane.

Momma's really good at riding at Meadow's pace.



Meadow was ready for some tamale's from La Loma at the Midtown Global Market.

I opted for a burrito.

I'm still on soft foods and not big bites. I was jealous of Scott's burritos.

We were planning to leave, but decided to try East Lake Brewery. I know we are really behind on the new places to eat and drink.

Mostly because I hadn't been drinking much the past 2 years with having a baby, we've been hitting up a lot of breweries lately.


I can see us going here a lot during summer bike rides.

Meadow mysteriously wasn't drinking her root beer. It turns out she was getting sick.


Meadow wasn't up for riding, so I towed her bike back.


The Yuba Mundo is such a game changer. None of the tugging that makes towing a trailer hell. This is just fun to ride.

Theo is always looking back for his Mama.

I kind of feel like a superhero.

A passing rider even made a similar comment.

We promised Meadow a playground, so we did.

I just love these new swings. I wish these were around when Meadow was a baby.

Theo was having a blast. It's been a long time since he's swung.

A little girl wanted to swing with Theo, so we let her. It was so cute.

I thought the playground would be packed, but it was mostly empty.

My little dude already loves biking.

Then I gave it a try. I'm not used to having a bike with gears, especially 24 like this one. I need to practice a bit more.

We ended up taking it into Farmstead Bike Shop for a tuneup. It already rode pretty good, but now it's riding like a charm.

We ended our perfect city Saturday with game of Candyland back at the condo. Life's good.

  It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
