Another Weekend of Halloween Fun

The weekend before Halloween means its Meadow's friend Eleanor's birthday party. This year it was all My Little Pony themed. The kids got to decorate their own unicorn horn.


I asked Meadow what she wanted to be for Halloween last August. She wanted to be a fairy again. I eventually convinced her to be a butterfly. Then two days before the party she decided on being Wonder Woman.

We had a Rainbow Dash (color run) outside for the kiddos.

Meadow opted out of the race.


All the other kids had a blast.


Running while holding hands with friends was more fun for Meadow I guess.

With Scott having to work Meadow and I biked over to their house. I just love biking with her.

Back at home Meadow wanted to make a party hat out of paper. Since we put away most of her toys to keep the house clean Meadow has become very creative. She's always wanting to create things or draw.

I got home just in time to see her creating the party hats.

Always around this time year I start wanting to get more into crafting. I decided for a Christmas gift for Meadow I'm going to attempt to make her a dress. We headed to my favorite fabric store, SR Harris.

Without telling Meadow what it was for, I asked her to pick out some fabric. She kept going across the aisle to the sparkly fabric.

For some reason going to SR Harris is fun. It's such a colorful mishmash of fabrics and people from every walk of life.

It's also a bit overwhelming when trying to decide on a color or pattern.

We finally settled on a blue linen fabric.

A yard of fabric, some elastic and buttons this dress only cost me $4.00.
As long as I don't screw it up of course.

Afterwards we headed to the Brooklyn Park Library a few blocks away.

We needed to kill some time before our next adventure.

We were going to BareBones once again to see their spooky puppet theater. First we needed to get dinner. Meadow wanted falafel, so we ended up at Shish on Grand Avenue.

Meadow did say she wanted falafel.

But she mostly ate her pita bread. She's not been too into eating dinners recently.

I had hoped to get to BareBones early enough to grab seats, but we missed out again and had to stand in the back. Little did we know we would see this skeleton again soon.

Brooke and I took turns holding Meadow. Eventually they got a seat near the end of the show.

Once we got home Meadow and I cozied up to her new books before bed.

  It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
