Another Olive Birthday Party

Earlier this week I came down with some virus. It was horrible. I hadn't been this sick in a long time. I even missed two days of work. So Scott wouldn't catch my germs and listen to me coughing all night he had been sleeping in the guest room. Meadow only had me to wake up in the morning.

Meadow and I had breakfast while Scott slept.

I love sleeping in.

Olive's birthday party was today. Meadow picked out a cupcake picture to color for her. She was really excited to color the cherry red. Then was really excited to color the whole thing red. She kept saying, "Olive is going to love this!" She's also getting better at staying in the lines.

She does the same thing on an iPad coloring game.

I'm still not feeling great after being sick. Meadow and I read books in bed.

I came up with a meal list for the week. I was super proud of using so many items that we had laying around the kitchen.

Every week I take inventory on all of our food and Scott finds meals on what we have. He's pretty good at it.

Meadow ate some 'stachios while Brooke finished up the list with a few breakfast meals.

Then it was party time. Olive had a Rescue Bot party. Complete with pin the Olive or June face on the bot.

I can't believe this will be our last birthday party with them at this house.

The usual Fiala family birthday friends were all in tow.

Can't believe this kid is six. Still remember when she was a tiny little thing and the Fialas claimed they were moving soon. Well, it only took this many more years for that to come true.

The kids got to make their own Bots.

Lydia gave Aaron a few pointers about how to drum.

Then the kids blew party favors into one another's faces.

She's pretty excited about being six.

I was pretty excited about eating a cupcake. Oh, hey, June.

After presents, everyone went home.

The Fiala's are letting us borrow some of their toys while they are off adventuring.

The rest of the night was spent low key. I wasn't feeling well and Scott played his new favorite game, Madden '16.

Boo, to not feeling good. Heck ya, to Madden! Craigslist steals are the best.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks. Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side. We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming. It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet. I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
