Chores in September

This week was the first week of school. Meadow started on Tuesday and Theo started on Thursday. I lucked out that I was working from home on Theo's first day so I could go with him. He had some first day jitters and didn't want to eat his breakfast. We got him to eat while watching cartoons.

 Theo's going to be a bit trickier to get ready for school. If something goes wrong, he can kind of go into a tailspin. But he's also had years of practice getting up and taking Meadow to school. 


Funny how Meadow just seemed ready for school and Theo seems too small. Like it can't be yet.

Except Meadow was so, so tiny.


I know Theo's going to love learning. He's already such a math wiz. With some help from his kindergarten teacher he's going to do so well.

He was really nervous when he got to school and his teacher was awesome and had him sit down with her to play to get him comfortable.

Give Theo some building toys and he's gonna do great.  

He seemed pretty excited when I picked him up from school.

I guess Kindergarten was okay because he kept his crown on for most of the day. Before going to bed he did say, I don't want to go to school tomorrow because I have to do something I don't know how to do. It turns out the teacher sent them home with a practice sheet so they could learn their student numbers when the get school lunch. 

We had a rare weekend at home, which meant the kids could play while the parents caught up on things that got set aside over the summer.

Theo of course started his day with the Mario Odyssey and the Switch.

It seemed like we returned from Labor Day and mother nature decided fall was here. As it had cooled down we could finally turn the oven on to make Big Pancake for breakfast.

At least our new oven doesn't spew heat like the old one.  

Meadow helped clean up the living room so I could vacuum.

I was going to be overseeding the lawn with a University of Minnesota Bee Lawn mix. That couldn't be planted until November, so I dethatced the lawn.

I tackled our growing pile of things that needed to be mended that I had put off for months.

It's nice to have space where I can leave out my sewing stuff.

Hey, wasn't this supposed to be our board game table? This is also a good use, I guess.

We have to drag Theo and Meadow upstairs to Funlandia, but once they do they get going.

As you can see our lawn is very spotty. Hopefully my hard work will fix this.


Then for dinner we had fajitas. Not as fun as campervan vacations, but a good start to the new school year.

  It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
