Snowy and Icy Winter Fun in Minneapolis

We had yet again another big snowstorm here. I love the snow, but after dealing with our car constantly getting stuck I'm over driving.

I think you just need to bite the bullet and get a fat bike for the work commute.

The snow was perfect for a snowman.

The kids love the slide and fort half of our new-to-us playset in winter.

Apparently jumping off a slide and into fluffy snow is pretty fun.

At least until you take a hard fall.

Meadow the medic had to come to the rescue.

I walk the kids to school nearly every morning and one house made this massive snowman in their front yard.

To beat the risk of getting our car stuck again, we walked to the ice rink to go ice skating.

You could way we got a lot of snow. 15" or so in this round.

Our Kitchen was looking magical decked out in the snow.

We need to go back again for breakfast.

Despite the low temps, there were a few others skating when we arrived.

Minneapolis' many ice rinks has to be one of the best aspects of living in the bigger of the Twin Cities.

Theo even ditched the trainer quickly. He just suddenly figured out how to skate.

I feel like he's done this for at least two years in a row.

Then we walked back through our old hood to our new one.

One of my goals this year is to get at least 20 days a month of 10,000 steps in. Since we are avoiding driving, I shouldn't have a problem.

We were having our next door neighbors over for dinner this time. Meadow made a chocolate Bundt cake. Always shake the pan around before turning over. If you don't hear it thumping around, it will break apart when you turn it out.

The rest of the night was spent cleaning up and prepping the pizza.

After Scott and my dad repaired this overhang last spring, it makes me nervous to see these giant icicles. Some are almost 6 feet long!

Our neighbor to the north has an almost identical house and his ice dam is even worse. I'm not sure if I can technically call it an ice dam since it's not coming back toward the soffits.

The next morning Theo and I built one of the two toy construction vehicle kits he got from Dennis and Katrina.

These days Theo goes to get himself a snack. This time when he gets to the fridge he casually says, "I'm going to go in the fridge now".

Silly dude.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks. Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side. We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming. It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet. I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
