Week 1 of Painting A Porch

With our renters out of town, I cleaned the porch walls and Brooke cleaned up the old doorbells and other hardware. It was time to paint the lower porch.

It felt like it took so long doing ours and we didn't even paint the floors. I was not looking forward to doing it all over again. I was excited though to strip all the paint on the doorbells. I had been wanting to do it since we moved in. I mean look at the detailing on it.

So long lead paint.

The backside looked like it was going to be copper but they're brass. I love the color variation.

Someday I'd like to get a little engraved plate of our house numbers to go in here.

Sadly this wouldn't clean up as well as I thought but still better than the white peeling paint it had on it.

We were low on wall paint and had to pick up a number of other items like a special Alkyd Paint for the floors. Brooke asked for paint rags.

We are becoming regulars at Menards now. Did you know I used to work there? Maybe I should get my job back so I can get a discount again.

While painting I took down the porch shade and...of course...part of it wasn't painted. Classic owners before us.

We got Meadow her fish she has been wanting. We looked at Beta fish but decided to get goldfish as a beginner fish to be safe. They were so cheap we let Theo get one too. They named their fish Bubbles and Slob.

Theo is now an expert at feeding himself. Still messy but at least he gets it mostly in his mouth.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. Brooke Turns 40, We Return to the Riverside Cabin at Voyageur Canoe Outfitters

This year is my 40th birthday. We originally thought we'd go to Mackinac Island and also played with the idea of going to Montreal. With a spring break trip coming up we settled on a cabin on the Gunflint Trail. The Gunflint Trail is one of our favorite spots in Minnesota. So, why not? We'd also decided to go on another campervan/RV relocation adventure at the end of the month. So don't act like I don't treat my honey. On our drive up we stopped at Tobie's to get cinnamon bread for french toast. Just like a few years back we stopped at Hungry Hippie Tacos in Duluth. I feel like we have to document whenever these kids get along as it's a rarity these days.
