Bring on the Snow!

We were excited to decorate our Mario gingerbread house but had to let it sit over night after gluing the castle together. 

Meadow has been asking for chocolate rye pancakes for awhile now. So today was the day. 

Almost 2 months into moving and two weeks into December we finally got a snowstorm and I got to try out my new electric snowblower.
 
When I saw how long our walkway was from the garage to the house I was like, maybe we should invest in a snowblower. 

The kids had so much fun making a gingerbread house over Thanksgiving that we had to get one for ourselves too. Of course we went with a Mario themed house. 

By the time I got back inside Peach's gingerbread second home was nearly complete.
 

 
 
I took some time off of working on the house to play outside with the kids.

All of our backyard needs a few more trees planted.
 
We have a few, but I wish we had more.  




We played some football...


And attempted to make a snow castle, but it wasn't good packing snow.
 

Meadow made this sign to get Theo to start using the toilet. He still prefers his diapers...

Theo wanted to help on the rental.
 
While looking through a 1908 Sears Catalog I found that we have an original toilet paper holder in our bathroom!


 
For dinner I made one of my favorites: loaf pan gyros.


I guess Naked Boy joined us for dinner. 

I guess it was a fun dinner or something.
 
The eave above our kitchen window is falling off. Our neighbors said it's been looking like that for 10 years and the icicles get long enough that it supports itself.
 


I fixed the bread and flour bin so that it could open and close fully.
 

The previous owners used it to store plastic bags. A few were caught behind the bin and the only way to get to them was to remove the hinges. After removing we noticed the wood needed to be repaired.  

You could claim we're being too much of perfectionists.
 
Some landlords probably don't pay as much attention to detail as we do. We literally are going over every surface.  

Grandpa Mike got us these inflating Christmas Mickey and Olaf''s a few weeks back. So we would indeed have some decorations this year outside.

I keep on thinking we're done with rooms, but then we go back and perfect the details.

The kids were busy watching the boob tube.
 
They are pretty much on their own on weekends.

Theo stayed up late watching the game with me.

  It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
