Cedar Lake Trail Detours and Sculpture Garden Stop

The kids asked for Big Pancake for breakfast. I usually eat mine with eggs and spinach and bacon. After seeing mine Theo wanted some poached eggs too.

Meadow turned another one of my old pants into a hoodie for tiger. She's never finished with her crafting.

I asked Meadow if she wanted to go hiking or biking today and she chose biking.

We got to check out the new trail bridge being built. So happy not to have to cross the road anymore.

Brooke works just outside of Minneapolis along the Cedar Lake Trail. It's getting rebuilt as a part of the Green Line light rail extension.

We were biking along the road when we saw all these phones mounted to a noise wall.

Not too far up the trail someone had added this swing.

I had to give it a go too.

Oh hey check out my new bike bag the fam gave to me for my birthday.

It was big enough for the kids and I.

Theo has decided he's too big for the bike seat, but not too big to still poop in diapers.

He loves hiding and then pooping in diapers. It's like you know when you have to go. Let's just use the freaking toilet.

We meandered through St. Louis Park after deciding not to cross MN 100.

We ended up on the North Cedar Lake Trail. I know. I'm not sure why they thought it would be a good idea to name to trails almost the same thing.

Along the trail we stumbled upon this fire pit hill by Cedar Lake. Somehow we never knew this existed.

This is one of my favorite places to bike in the cities. This was once a massive rail yard. Now just a few lines come through here including the upcoming light rail extension.

We just so happened to be near the Sculpture Garden.

It's no Franconia, but the kids love it.

We had just watched the 4 hour Justice League movie yesterday, so the kids had to dress like Batman and Wonder Woman today.

Just for the record we really enjoyed the Snyder Cut. Never saw the theatrical release.

Theo wanted to point to all of the sculptures on this display.

He even remembers the Spoon and Cherry from his Minnesota counting book.

Then we walked up the big zig-zag trail on our way out.

They didn't want to leave quite yet.

Meadow hitched a ride on the cargo so I took Theo on my bike. He was not thrilled and screamed for the next 20 minutes.

It was not fun.

Back home and pooped from the bike ride I wanted to pick something up. So we got Sotarol.

This sums up Theo's love for sushi.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks. Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side. We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming. It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1 Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19 precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month. I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...

Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet. I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
