Summa Summa Summertime

We never got Meadow a walker because we assumed she would have been walking by now. Since that's not the case we borrowed one from Emma. At first she would push it on her knees, now she seems to get the idea of walking with it.

We think she's still a while off from walking on her own.

With a bunch of potatoes and not much else in the pantry, I decided to make Spanish tortilla.

I added cauliflower to add some variety to this egg, onion and potato dish.

We talked about trying out the Kingfield Farmers Market, but by the time we woke up and ate breakfast it was already noon.

As we were getting our bikes ready to leave a car stopped at the end of our driveway. A guy our age got out and said his mom grew up in our house. He had come to our house for every holiday as a kid. I wished we weren't in a hurry or I would have invited him in. He was also on his way to see his grandma who was the previous owner of our home. I told him to stop by sometime to have a look inside. I hope he does, I'd love to hear stories and see old photos.

I'm going to miss this place in a few months.

This time we just picked out things we liked.

Water break before heading home.

Peanut stays cool in the sink.

Now that Meadow is playing with her toys more I love when I find things left by her.

Today's market bounty included some early corn.

Leftover eggplant fries, homemade noodles and scratch sauce for lunch.

Meadow thought it was so fun when I would walk next to her.

After debating on what to do for the day we decided on the Loring Park Art Fair.

We'd originally planned on going somewhere further afield, but we realized it was getting too late for a day trip.

We locked our bikes up by the sculpture garden and went over the bridge at the bottleneck.

I love looking at all the pottery vendors. I wish I could afford everything I wanted. Like these garden labels.

I have to admit that I'm not that into art fairs.

Of course I had to grab the free samples.

We ran into our old friend Liz who was putting on a puppet show.

These puppets were pretty rad. When I was looking at them a gentleman said, "Oh, Jimmy Buffet." I wonder if this guy pronounced Buffett's name like that on a regular basis.

He also did custom puppets to look like you.

Since Meadow has never been to the Sculpture Garden we took her on a quick tour.

My suggestion for the day was to go to the beach. It felt pretty hot for this cool summer we're having. We biked over to Cedar Lake and of course we weren't the only ones with this idea.

Meadow still prefers playing in the sand over the water.

We took her into the water eventually, but since we both went in we have no photos to prove it.

The beach was as packed as I've ever seen it. In fact all three beaches on Cedar Lake were hopping.

She could stay here all day long.

She thought it would be fun to climb on me while being covered in sand.

It was getting late and we still had to eat dinner.

We had nothing planned so I decided to look up grits and chard.

I found a recipe that served pan-wilted chard and a fried egg over polenta. This was a tad rich for my tastes, but worked as a last minute meal.

Mayday in Minneapolis 2025

It's Mayday, the greatest day of the year in Minneapolis. I warned Theo that it was going to be hot today but he still insisted on wearing his high wool socks.  Can you blame him. They look so cool. We biked over like we always do. So much easier these days living just across the highway from the South Side.   We left later than planned and didn't have our bikes ready so by the time we arrived there were no more spots on the curb to sit. We hung out in the shade until we heard the Battletrain coming.       It'll be here soon. Or will it? Every 30 feet this giant cardboard castle did a little show. That would explain the long hold up for the parade to start.

Backcountry Camping with Kids in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Day 1  Back in May I stumbled upon Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had no idea there was a National Park in North Dakota and that it was the northern end of the Badlands. Usually our summer vacations coincide with Scott's work trips. Since he didn't have any this summer I thought we should take advantage of actually taking a vacation. What, my workcations are always classics? I suppose a second real vacation this year wouldn't hurt. We definitely have more time than normal. As long as we took Covid-19  precautions and avoided people. We finally settled on a time to go. Blake joined us so we borrowed our dad's van so we could ride together. Scott had just driven from Michigan the day before. Blake had met my parents in Wisconsin to get the van and then drove from Duluth to pick us up. I offered to drive since I literally only drive twice a month.  I was still pretty tired from a long drive home. Since we were near Fergus Falls we had to stop by the abandoned state ho...

Work Trip to Dallas

Another work trip for Scott means another Chinese buffet.  I had to try the best Chinese buffet in Dallas. It just feels like something you do in Texas. I was down in Dallas for a shoot at Parker University. Yeah, I'd also never heard of it. After the shoot and the buffet, I explored the Oak Cliff section of Dallas from L.O. Daniel to the Bishop Arts District. When I go to a sunbelt town I typically look up "most walkable neighborhood" on Reddit. Almost always your best bet in these sprawling metroplexes. Yup, definitely in Texas. I wasn't hungry at this point, but next time I'm in Dallas, I've got to eat at Taqueria El Si Hay. This place just screams, "Really good tacos, here!"
